Located in Hjalteyri, 12 mi from Akureyri, Apt. Hotel Hjalteyri features views of the sea and the mountains from every apartment. Every room has a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. We loved everything about this place! Everything was exceptional - the hospitality of the staff and owners, the views, the breakfast, the comfy beds, the modern bathroom, the tasteful art and decor in the room and in the common areas, the amenities in the kitchenette... the list can go on and on.... It is the best place with the best view and hospitality that we stayed at during our 10-day trip to Iceland in June. There was also a convenient whale watching tour really close by where we got to see the whales Even though we stayed here for 3 nights, we could have stayed even longer. This was such a beautiful experience for us, that we might return to Iceland just to stay here again.

Located in Arnarnes, Arnarnes Paradise provides free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a bar, a spa & wellness center and a terrace. Loved this place, and the owner, who herself could be an elf or fairy. She provided us with a room that was heaven, in my view. This is what I had asked for- a room with windows and a view- and this is what was given to us. She also upgraded us at no additional cost. The whole place is clean and bright, with thoughful touches everywhere. There is a beautiful walking path behind the farm and down the beach, and these are great viewing areas for whales. The owner is also a healer, provides rechi(sp?) and meditation and yoga. She also filled the hot pot for us to use. The breakfast was one of the best we have had, serving the usual meats, cheese, tomatoes, egg and cucumber, but also serving homemade jams, bread, waffles, cookies(GREAT)and blueberry smoothie drink. There is always coffee and tea and cocoa available. The gallery is fun and we loved the paintings. We wished we could have stayed much longer than 1 night.

Hosts were very friendly and very accommodating; even worked with us on an abnormally late check-in. Breakfast was good, location was amazing. Wish we didn't plan so much for the day after; would have loved to explore some hikes around the property.

Set a 10-minute drive from Akureyri, Countryhotel Sveinbjarnargerdi offers stunning views of the Eyjafordur area, its mountains and the fjord. Room was very spacious, clean and comfort to stay. Breakfast was very nice. Location was perfect 15 mins from the city and plus a chance for us to see Aurora there! We have very pleasant stay there!
Located in Grenivík, Grýtubakki I offers self-catering accommodations with free WiFi. Grýtubakki I features views of Eyjafjörður Fjord and is 22 mi from Akureyri. The property was incredible. It blew us away, the facilities and location were completely beautiful and we saw the aurora from there every night. Our hosts were really easy to communicate with and came and cleared the drive of snow after a night of snowfall. The horse riding next door was incredible too. Thank you so much for the most wonderful stay.
There were six of us, four adults and two children (9 & 3 years old). We booked one room for all with a private toilet and were quite comfortable. If the house is full, the kitchen can be very busy but with a bit of cooperation everyone can find a place. There is not much to do in Hjalteyri but one thing worth doing is taking the boat to Hrisey, a beautiful island in the fiord. On the other hand, our car was not able to start one day and the owner pushed us with his own car so that we could start and continue our trip. This is something to be appreciated when you are abroad and may experience difficulties. We thank them for their hospitality.
We spotted whales from our penthouse terrace, and relaxed in our hot tub. Cool place, and warm! Visited Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss, and Skútustaðahreppur on our full day in the area. Also well placed for the Nature Baths. Akureyri town center is worth visiting.
