The amazing location of Hotel Skaftafell provides guests with stunning views of Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjukur and the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull. Excellent service and food at the restaurant. Food quality was superb, waiters were very professional. Would highly recommend to have dinner there. Hotel was very clean and cozy.
Set in Hof at the foot of Vatnajökull National Park, Vesturhús Hostel provides a shared lounge and free WiFi throughout the property. Guests can enjoy mountain views. Our first hostel experience! Much better than expected. Clean, spacious kitchen and lounge area. Clean bathrooms, warm water, comfy beds. We had everything we needed. We met interesting people from Italy. The owner was friendly and helpful and very willing to accommodate our needs and keep us informed. We saw a great show of Northern Lights!

With unspoiled views towards the Vatnajökull Glacier, this countryside guest house is 16 mi from Kirkjubæjarklaustur village. The location is off the Ring Road and it’s about 5 minutes drive over a road with lots of potholes. But along the way you’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of its surrounding, wishing you could drive even slower. Once you reach there, you can take a short walk to a nearby bridge where a glacial river flows underneath it. Breakfast was great with cereals, toasts and waffles (They really love waffles ;).
Hamrafoss Holiday Home offers accommodations in Foss a Sidu, right by Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Free private parking is available on site. The holiday home is an old farmhouse which has been renovated. This house has everything in it.
The hotel is a blessing when you have been driving all day or hiking the waterfall which was one of my favorites. We ate at the gas station across from the hotel it was very good. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious. The waterfall is one of the best and a don't miss that one.
We hiked a good part of the way up Kristinartindar, but high wind, rain, and some snow flurries had us turn back a little before the summit. Be prepared for any weather, but know that you'll enjoy the views no matter how far along the path you go! Easily some of the most breath-taking views I've ever seen.
Skaftafell National Park was incredible! The glacier hike was mesmerizing- such a beautiful and memorable experience. Be sure to book tours in advance as they can fill up and you do require a guide in order to explore the glacier. The hiking in the park is also lovely. We took about 45 minutes to complete a vigorous hike to and from the Black waterfalls, which were totally worth it.
Gorgeous, glacier filled area of Iceland. It is a winter wonderland even in the summer. There are plenty of things to do--go to the Tourist Information centers, rather than the hotels for information and for signing up for activities. You can go glacier walking, snowmobiling, visit fishing villages, visit the lake with floating glaciers [not to be missed!], hiking etc. Be advised that organized activities are not inexpensive. And, for those of you who think you will be camping in a tent--maybe rethink it. The weather is difficult and it can be freezing and very windy, as can all of Iceland.
We went to the tour of " into the glacier ". It says ice cave tour, but the ice cave is too small, can only crawl out, very disappointed. I wanted to see the big ones that can stand and take some pics. This is more like a glacier walking tour. But the guide was nice, the glacier was fine too.

In the middle of Skaftafell National Park Visitors Centre and Cafeteria at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, which is the best place for rest after a blue ice experience tour.
