Aosta is a lovely town with narrow streets and Roman ruins. Nearby are many attractions too numerous to mention. There's a flat Golf course nearby that is open to non members. The cable car to the top of Pila is a must.

What a great place to visit for a summer break.

What a great place to visit for a summer break. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the old town, everyone seemed very friendly and tolerated our limited knowledge of Italian and the town felt very safe and chilled when walking around at night. Cable car to Pila and beyond is well worth the price, stunning views and a good restaurant at the top without being too commercial. If you’re into hiking or downhill MTB this place is an absolute playground too. I’ll be back on my motorbike as soon as I can.

We wanted to visit the Alps while in Italy, and Aosta did not disappoint. The town has terrific architecture, is clean and surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is easy to get there and get around with public transportation and on foot. It had a different feel than the other Italian places we stayed. We had originally planned to spend a day visiting some of the many castles near Aosta, but changed our minds once we found out how difficult and expensive it was to get to them without a rental car. Instead, we saw the Roman ruins & museum in town, the cathedral and another ancient church building all within easy walking distance.

Aosta had a lovely atmosphere with lots of choice for eating and drinking. The Roman history is really interesting and some great deals on tickets for museums etc. Great food at Il Boccio, sitting in the garden. The market on Tuesday is amazing - so many clothes stalls. The local countryside is beautiful and heading out to the mountains is well worth it.

Charming town. Lots of history.

Charming town. Lots of history. It is a very quiet town, and getting used to things being closed during lunch / early evening took a minute to get used to. Navigating the town is pretty simple and once you get the hang of the roundabout it’s easy. Parking is difficult everywhere. The food we had was very good and the service was excellent. I was surprised that the locals were not very engaging and sometimes borderline rude but that may be a small town thing? The other surprising discovery was the ratio of older residents to young - after doing some reading the population skews heavily towards 50+ so if you’re looking for a young / lively town then Aosta will disappoint. For dinners strongly recommend Osterio da Nando / wonderful service and food Vecchio Ristoro / amazing. Choose the chef selection course.

Lovely little hotel just outside of Aosta on the road towards Gt St Bernard Pass/Tunnel. Our room had a balcony and super view over Aosta towards the Pila ski lift on the other side of the valley and the mountains beyond. Very comfortable beds and quiet. Family run, welcoming, cosy and with a restaurant that bats way above the average. Superb food. Note that the restaurant is closed on a Sunday, so you would need to drive into Aosta to get a meal.

Location is great, as it's in the newer part of Aosta, easy to find, large car park, spacious rooms. Sauna was great too. The Staff were all very happy and helpful. It allows dogs and there was a cute old Black Labrador that was often chilling out on a dog bed in reception. The hotel TheraPet :-)

The chalet is very nice, interiors as well. Rooms are perfect, there are balconies with Aosta or Pila views. Restaurant is good, it’s quite popular among all the tourists, not just hotel clients. Breakfast was also good.
