Bolzano is one of those cases that are difficult to describe without risking undermining its beauty and complexity. A witness of the conflicts and renaissance of Europe, this Italian city is the capital of the German speaking province of South Tyrol. Located in the Adige River Valley, it is surrounded by hills crowned by castles, and framed by the Dolomites Alps.
After reaching the local railway station, follow the Bahnhofsallee or Viale della Stazione and you’ll reach Walther Square, where the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady is located. The shops along the arcaded street of Via dei Portici will lead you towards the market, located in Goethe Strasse. The display of colourful vegetables and flowers encompasses the beautiful buildings, while some of the best luxury hotels in Bolzano are located nearby.
The city is famous for its Christmas Market, but be aware that most of the hotels in Bolzano get sold out quickly during this time! A stroll around the old residential quarter of Gries and a visit to the many nearby castles is a must.
Whether you arrive at the local Dolomites Airport or the larger Verona Airport, check out the Bolzano accommodation deals on Booking.com before travelling!

Bolzano is a pleasant, picturesque town - relaxing and small enough to see in a short space of time. The surrounding area (e.g. Seceda) contains some stunningly beautiful scenery which makes this town well worth a visit. One could use it as a base to visit a whole range of places.

There is many things to do as for us, we decided to mainly enjoy our stay in the centrum by sightseeing the beautifull architecture and streets. Then we thought it would be a great idea to try to do hiking so we went for the renowned Corno del Renon trek from SopraBolzano. How to say it... I guess trying such a parkour as a first was at the same time a great and a shitty idea the walk was nice and cool until we met with the last 2km of the walk wich we renamed the wall as it is literally a fricking wall (650m+ in denivellation). Hear me out that is not for beginners or at least come preapared because I did it with sneakers, a bermuda and a t-shirt, we only had one bag with our things and it started to rain as we gone down (I did it without jacket 😭😂). The temperature was pretty cold at the top so take one more layer not to feel cold... (Overall the trek is doable as I weight 115kg and still managed to reach the top without dying...) As for the food there are many options to eat and overall everything taste good so just try your luck anywhere you shouldn't be disapointed (the Price is reasonable).

We enjoyed exploring the picturesque streets, filled with shops, cafes, and restaurants. The food was fantastic, offering a delightful mix of traditional South Tyrolean cuisine and Italian classics.
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, where we learned about the famous Ötzi the Iceman. There is also an amazing Messner Museum nearby. The ease to access different trails from the city made it another advantage.
Every aspect of our trip was enhanced by the friendly locals who were always eager to help and share their love for the city. Whether we were enjoying a leisurely stroll through the old town, sipping coffee in a quaint cafe, or hiking in the nearby Dolomites, we felt welcomed and at home.

I highly recommend that if you visit Bolzano, you use the furnicular and go up to SopaBolzano. The ride is wonderful and you have a panoramic view. There is also a train on the top that you can go all along the top and look at the view. We had coffee and gelato at the little café at the top of the mountain. Such a relaxing, nice time. There is also very good shopping in Bolzano and restaurants. We had dinner at Paulaner Stuben—it was awesome!!
