Whilst all the Cinque Terre villages are beautiful and have a distict personality, Manarola perhaps offers the most dramatic 'seaside' feel. Monterosso has a proper beach but less of a beautiful backdrop, and Manarola has a vibrant harbour area and some great bars overlooking the sea. A sundowner cocktail at the gloriously positioned Nessum Dorma is a must, but do go well before sunset or you'll have to queue for a table.
Stunning village in a dramatic setting with great views. We've been twice, the first time in the summer - take a sunset boat cruise, a magical experience. Plan to stay overnight to get the true flavour of this lovely little town once the crowds have left. At Christmas time the town is much quieter but just as lovely. The Christmas lights on the hillside surrounding the town well worth seeing. Visit Nessun Dorma for fab views of the town and great drinks/snacks - it's open when the sun shines all year round!
Beautiful location. Terrific hiking. Weather the day I arrived and day left were poor - and entire area shuts down. 3 of the four major hikes not available. Lots of tourists especially large groups made some towns unbearably crowded.
Manarola was a pretty village. The train station is a short walk through the subway from the main street, which means it doesn't spoil the ambience of this little village. Great Marina to watch the sunset from and lots of restaurants with varying menus & costs. Best gelato in Cinque Terre.
I live in the US and have traveled through the states, to the Caribbean, Indonesia, and Germany so I am somewhat traveled (for context). I think Manarola, and the Cinque Terre region, is the most picturesque place I've ever been. There's also the conveniences of everyday life (groceries, restaurants, good hotels, trains, etc) which is unique for a place so remote and beautiful. Great area for hiking, relaxing, eating, drinking, and swimming - though, there are many nicer areas for beach bums in Italy. There are a lot of crowds mid-day and the trains get packed, so if you aren't into public transit this may stress you out. Overall, one of my favorite places I've ever been and I can't wait to go back.
Even in mid October there were a lot of people. The restaurant on the right when you get to the water, Marina Piccolo (Michelin Star) was excellent for lunch. Small village and doable without staying the night. Better than Riomaggiore I thought.
Manarola
This hotel was a surprising treat at the end of our trip. When we arrived we were shown to our room which was part of a cave. The cave wall added an extra element and was very unique. The room itself was spotless and very modern with sufficient room for a family of four (2 teens). The bathroom was newly renovated and was larger than we have typically experienced in Europe. We loved the location and the balcony which overlook the town. We can’t say enough great things about this property and we would love to return. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

The location was awesome, especially the terrace! The rooms looked small at first but actually you have everything inside what you need and they are well designed. It was also nice that they served fresh Italian breakfast with a nice view at the terrace. The lady who served it was also very friendly and helpfull. Worth every penny. Definitely recommended!
