Monopoli is a charming, historical town with easy access to beautiful sea views, beaches and historical sights. It is well lit at night so one can walk the narrow streets, find local trattorias and bars as well as excellent restaurants on every corner with outdoor dining. We loved Apluvia, a bar and restaurant on the lungomare with charm and atmosphere and the more upscale restaurant, Lidobianco, with excellent seafood and ambiance. I would advise arranging transport to your accommodation from the train station in advance as there were no taxis available.
Monopoli never disappoints. This property was in the old town but easy to find in the Porta Vecchia area. Our host picked us up at the station as our train had been delayed. The property would easily take 3 people and it was spotless. If you like unspoiled Italy with great weather and welcoming and friendly people, it's the place for you. This was my 10th visit to Monopoli and I will be going back again soon
The historical centre was nice, little cafes, we went more to Polignano a mare because we knew a good restaurant there! Very close by! Shopping very close by. Right of the highway but never heard the traffic, nice and quiet!!
Loved the old town of Monopoli, the narrow streets, the seafront and the many good restaurants. It was friendly and no one hassled you to go into their restaurant or shop. People seemed eager to help if you had a question. The old port had a real charm to it and it was nice just watching the fisherman going out or mending their nets. We went in October and the weather was fabulous!
It is a big Town but it has a lovely Old Town with classic Italian Streets that lead to a central Square. There’s also a Marina and of course it’s on the sea, so although rocky, you can lie in the sun and swim in the sea. We loved the balance of being in a Town. We went at the beginning of October so we didn’t feel like we were surrounded by Tourists. I believe July/Aug might be different. There are loads of Bars and Restaurants to choose from and they stay Open until Midnight. We also liked that the Town was still active in the weekday evenings, not too sleepy, which then really came alive at the Weekends. The weather was great for us in the early/mid 20s. Italy isn’t cheap although Monopoli was definitely more affordable than other places we visited. We would visit Monopoli again and would highly recommend it.
Monopoli is a small city along the Adriatic coast. Take care of parking. Along the streets, on the white line is free, on the blue line is permitted, but you have to pay for, yellow is for delivery or reduced mobility person. Do not enter in restricted areas (ZTL - ZONA TRAFFICO LIMITATO), where driving is authorized only to local inhabitants or to individuals destined for a hotel in the restricted zone. Pay attention to posted signs and be careful not to enter zones of limited traffic, which are marked by signs "ZTL". Most of the ZTL/zones in Italy are controlled by video cameras. If you stay in a hotel located in the "ZTL", make sure that the hotel has previously sent a fax to the local authorities providing the approximate time of your arrival by car. Check the hotel position in internet and ask them to assure your safe arrival to their car park. Drink local wine and eat at the restaurants in Centro Storico (Ancient center).
Monopoli
Massimo was a fantastic host and extremely helpful - from helping carry our big suitcase up the stairs, advising with parking to preparing a tasty breakfast. The room is comfy, with air conditioninh, beautifuly decorated, and conveniently located in the centre of the old city but quiet. The terrace is also a bonus with good views and great to unwind after sightseeing. Would stay again when visiting Monopoli!
Monopoli
Very nice, kind staff, really helpful with all matters at hand they really try to make your stay memorable (in a good way). The location is very nice, granted it is in the middle of olive trees fields, but you can see the sea from the pool and terrace. Breakfast was very nice, of course because of COVID you have to “preorder”. Also, the masseria itself is just a gorgeus property and has a magnificent charm.
