Picturesque medieval hill town in a dramatic setting. Plenty to see and do - duomo, museums, underground Orvieto, bell towers, incredible Pozzo di S. Patrizio etc - for 4 or 5 days. Small enough to walk around and take in views. Without a car it is not straightforward to visit other towns.
This is one of Italy's great historic towns. The cathedral is nothing short of breathtaking, and the rest of the historic centre is just great too. There are incredible views of the surrounding countryside, a subterranean town to discover ('The Underground'), interesting shops and market and, well, wonderful sights everywhere you look. Don't miss it!
The bus to Citiva Bagnoregio departs in Orvieto as well as Orvieto train station. But finding the stop is a bit sneaky. It's not Cahen plaza. On google map, you can find 'Parcheggio Camper Orvieto Centro' near piazza Cahen. If you stay in Oevieto, you don't need to take the funicular to go down to the train station stop. Orvieto is really beautiful. I stayed for 3 days, but I should've stayed longer!!!
The cathedrale is stunning and one of the best in all of Italy. This is a wine town, so only drink the local wine...it's so good. Must eat at one of the many butcher shops...porchetta sandwich and pasta with wild boar.
Orvieto is my kind of city: big enough to have lots of family-owned shops and restaurants (including many open on a Sunday), but small enough to navigate. You could spend 3 or 4 days in Orvieto and get a real feel for the place and the people.
Orvieto is on the main train line between Rome and Florence. Great for day trips by train to other villages, Cortona 6Euros each way, is a good example. Rome 2 hrs , Florence 2.5hrs . plus Orvieto has lots to offer, Market day is Thursday and Saturday. CJ

Everything about this stay was extremely positive. The rooms were air conditioned and comfortable, the salt water pool was extremely relaxing and good for doing laps, and the grounds and views are beautiful. As importantly for a good rental of this type, the hosts are exceptional. Warm, friendly, and helpful, but also offering a very private experience.
