Distinct rural flavor and atmosphere of a hilltop village, complete with their colorful neighborhood flags showing pride and spirit. Good place to stroll, visit sites without the hoards of pushy tourists, convenient train although the funicular was down for maintenance. Local folks of all ages were helpful and friendly, fun sharing laughter even without words.
Skip the big cities - Orvieto has everything you're looking for. I'll take the Duomo over the cathedrals of Siena and Florence, and the Signorelli Last Judgement certainly gives Michaelangelo's a run for its money. There are some tourists, but it's hardly crowded - the only time we saw more than a dozen people in the cathedral square, it was for a local wedding. The town is small enough to be walkable, and it is hard to get lost. The situation, on a bluff overlooking the Tiber river valley, is spectacular, and if you get tired of walking the medieval streets, there is a hiking trail circling the entire town outside the walls.
A lovely small town. I have visited before and this time went to hear a family member sing opera in one of the piazzas as part of the flower festival and with a group. A general wander is necessary, with stops for the tufa caves. The main Dupmo, ice creams and souvenirs. White night was to happen in all the churches on Saturday June 8 and is a new initiative I believe an conjunction with the annual flower festival.
Very artsy hill town! Go early or late because everything is closed 12 to 6....bummer! Stay outside the city walls & take the funicular. Don't stay at Hotel Picchio. The only upside to this hotel is if you need to return a car at Hertz, walk to the funicular & walk to the train station.
Really an amazing old town. The Duomo is a fantastic example of Siennese gothic...worth a trip in itself and far less crowded than the Duomos in Sienna and especially Florence. The city has a lovely atmosphere with a number of great piazzas to sit and have a coffee or cocktail.
Beautiful hilltop town that is easily accessible. Truly friendly people most speak both Italian and English so it was easy to communicate. I highly recommend using this town as a base and making day trips from here. This is what we did and it was perfect without the hustle and bustle of a big city

Thé location was great. Close to the Duomo and the cute city center. The room was spacious and very clean. The wifi and television worked great. The hostess is wonderful, friendly and helpful. She really wants her guests to enjoy her B&B as well as their time in Orvieto. The room also has a mini fridge. Orvieto has really good restaurants in general and was a wonderful relaxing environment. The breakfast at the Magnolia is your standard continental fare.

Stunning in everyway. The size and grandeur of Palazzo Febei added to the beauty and enjoyment of our visit to Orvieto. A feeling of home, luxury and style. In the middle of Orvieto, location was outstanding, moments walk to everything - Duomo, restaurants, supermarket, shops, funicolare, train station. Ale & Cesare went beyond our expectations in their assistance. Loved Palazzo Febei. Will visit again. A must recommended locations. Perfection

What a great place in a quiet part of the town but still so close to everything. Enzo was the best host we’ve had in Italy. The type of host that would go out of his way to ensure a great stay. He even picked us up and dropped us off at the station. The apartment was very comfortable with a modern touch....and the shower has to be the best ever for weary travellers!

The agriturismo is perfectly situated for a visit to the Orvieto area. It has magnificent views of the town. We spent time each evening sitting outside, sipping wine and watching the sun glow off of the Duomo in the distance. Fabrizio, who checked us in, was very helpful and informative. We will cheerfully stay there again the next time we’re in the area.
