Orvieto is an amazing place.. a jewel. Small enough to easily walk from one end to the other... and see in a couple of days.. and the food options are plentiful and reasonably priced. The Duomo is the main attraction, excellent facade and frescos.... but there is also an underground Etruscan city, and museum too.
Orvieto was such an amazing town! It may be small by population size, but there are plenty of wonderful things to explore during the day including all of the historical sites, a wonderful walking path (3km), and a great place to stroll and enjoy slow, Italian living. Plenty of Medeival streets to investigate, as well as views for days across the valley below. It is also on the high speed trainline from Rome so it is easy to access Orvieto Scala (lower town). From there you can take the escalators to the old walled city, or hire a taxi. One of the most unexpected and welcomed features of Orvieto was how great the city website was! Orvietoviva.com We hired a guide (Elizabetta) from the city to show us around to all of the main sites and to take in the history. Then they organized a wine and food tasting in front of the Duomo for lunch. It was magical! It is also a great jumping off point to other Umbrian or Tuscan towns!
I wish we had booked to stay longer. The countryside is beautiful. It is relaxing but there is lots to do. Il Gregorio restaurant is out of this world. The view from the restaurant is spectacular. The streets are narrow in Orvieto so you have to be a confident driver. It is very hilly.
Lovely town with a big history. 360 degree views from the clock tower, fascinating Etruscan museum, breathtakingly gorgeous Duomo. Admission to all attractions was very reasonable. I recommend coming in the off season (we were here in February 2022) if possible to avoid the hordes of tourists that come in the summer.
This is the type or town most Americans think of when they here the word Italy. Enticing streets, great restaurants, beautiful Duomo and superb views all on top of an hill. Come for a day or a month you will not be disappointed.
Orvieto is a historic city with a handful of interesting historic sights to see. There aren't that many tourists around so when we were out at night the restaurants catered mainly to locals which is an experience that we like.
Orvieto
One of the proprietors, Eric, met me in the Duomo square and walked me to the apartment which is really charming. The apartment is stocked with everything you could possibly need. It is centrally located. The restaurant recs were great. There are two aircons, but generally the cross-ventillation is sufficient to keep the apartment cool. The living room window offers a view of the top of the Duomo.
Beautiful, quaint little boutique hotel. It’s right in the heart of Orvieto. There is a hotel bar that serves espresso, liqueurs, and wine. A nice breakfast every morning. The staff was very helpful and polite. They were a great help booking dinner reservations and a taxi (one of only three in the city). It was just the right hotel for the quaint experience of a small hill town in Umbria.
Orvieto
The apartment was bright with windows in every room. It includes a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine and drying rack. The hosts have clearly spent a lot of time renovating byand equiping it. They also showed us around the unit, informed us about touring Orvieto, and included brochures and the major guidebooks of Italy for our use.
Orvieto
the size of the apartment and location are excellent, there are besides two bedrooms also a dining area, kitchen, and TV room, also a washing machine, good wifi etc. The kitchen was provided with some essentials for a quick breakfast and a drink in the evening. I felt at home right away. The location is close to the Duomo (5 min walk).
An old monastry at a very nice location with great view to Orvieto. Regardless the negative comments I read about it, I still chose this place and happy with this unique experience. If one day they decide to renovate this property to a 4-5 star hotel, the price will be 4-5 times higher as well 😆 It’s big, and quite impressive.
Orvieto
We had a rental car so being in the country just a short drive from Orvieto was perfect. The hotel was charming, like a country inn with beautiful stone walls and some fine paintings on the wall. It was peaceful and comfortable. The hostess was very helpful in recommending a restaurant in town.
Orvieto
Good place, location in the historical center of Orvieto. The personal stuff really kind and the rooms in perfect conditions. The only "bad" thing: There's no kitchen (so you have to go to eat somewhere out everyday) and not even a fridge. My calification: 7/10
Orvieto
The most beautiful views from the garden and the extremely friendly staff. The bathroom was really nice and clean (some bathrooms in Italy can be so small). It was a calm happy place to be after spending a few days in hectic Rome. Sorry I did not say goodbye Rosanna!!
Orvieto
Comfortable and cozy apartment. The kitchen has all you need to make coffee, breakfast or other meals. Excellent location, few minutes to restaurants, bars, shops and The Duomo. The owner is friendly and helpful. When we visit Orvieto again, we will stay at Urbevetus.
Orvieto
Best location in whole of Orvieto. Right where the action happens but secluded enough to be able to hide away if you want to. Great view of the Duomo and with the balcony you are able to sit outside and watch the comings and goings on the street below.
The hotel was being refurbished so was unavailable but the owners provided a wonderful apartment as an alternative and could not have been more helpful. I would like to thank them very much as we had a great time in Orvieto!!
Orvieto
Location. Location. Location. 10 steps from hotel Duomo and 20 steps from Duomo. Very clean property. Landlady was very friendly. Worked well for our party of 7, including use of the sofa bed. 3 bedrooms is rare and so nice.
It was a quaint hotel in the heart of Orvieto. It was easy to find and the parking garage was not far away. Its central location made it ideal for seeing the city.
Orvieto
The rooms were huge, well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The proprietress was very welcoming. The location was a few steps from the Duomo and the museums.
Great hotel next to the Duomo, with parking onsite. Nice and helpful staff. Nice breakfast.
Orvieto
This property is a very special place, in a stunning location high in the vineyards outside Orvieto. The accommodations are very comfortable with lovely bedding and towels and everything you would need for a hotel stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful, including at the breakfast service and dinner. Oh yea, dinner on the veranda gave us magnificent views all around as well as incredibly delicious food and presentation. We highly recommend Locanda Palazone for a lovely stay in Umbria.
Orvieto
The location was absolutely perfect, the check in and out process with Jole was a breeze. Dinner was incredible and over the top delicious, our complements to the chef. The Chardonnay was amazing and hopefully we can order and a case shipped to us. The dogs made us feel like we were at home as we miss our puppy.

The staff were excellent. All the food from the pasta to the baked goods were made at the Inn. And the wine was from their vineyards, which was exceptional.
