Set in amongst the residential area of Ostia Antica, it is just minutes from the amazing ruins of the vast Roman Port. The owners were a lovely Italian couple who spoke enough english for us all to understand each other. Their home is in a great location that allowed us to walk to the ruins in Ostia Antica and to a place for dinner. I was near Christmas and the home was decorated nicely. Their grandson drove us to the airport, for a charge of course, and we arrived in plenty of time for our flight. We would stay there again, and recommend it to others.
We stayed one night. It was a clean and comfortable place, the staff were helpful and friendly. the transfer to the airport was easy and short. the onsite resturant was good. we did not have time to use any of the other facilities. the included breakfast was a little sparce, just cake, pastry, juce and coffee. the advertised glutin free options were not very obvious, however we did get 2 small packs of very nice busicuts for breakfast, that the waitress found out the back. all in all a nice place for a stop over.
The archaeological site is enormous and slightly overwhelming; 5-6 hours was enough for me, although a second visit would have been good. There are some amazing sites there including mosaic flooring, some of which is unrestored and I was surprised to find it actually underfoot. The cafe in the site served lovely salads and hot dishes, not too pricey. I didn't explore the town but ate at a good bistro for reasonable cost.
Nice little town with good restaurants and GREAT history. The ruins are a great visit. Much calmer and nicer than visiting Pompei, though Pompei is a little grander. Definitely worth a day or two of exploration.
Close to the sea, close to the antiques, close to the airport. the room was very small but served our purposes well, if we have to sleep near the airport - and have transportation, this place is great.
Good: close to airport and Ostia Antica Ruins. Some dinner menu items were good. Breakfast was good, typical European fare. Loved the coffee. Bad: Filthy walls and peeling wallpaper. Tacky, outdated decor. Small room. Small bathroom. Beds are very hard. Could use a good cleaning. The hotel boasts a spa and a golf course, neither of which are actually at the hotel. The neighborhood the hotel sits in seems seedy and and trashy. Not at all what I expected.
