We thoroughly enjoyed the views the many fine seafood restaurants (especially La Medusa), and the church on the point. Parking was an issue, as expected. We used the Easy Park system everywhere in town -- it is very convenient, even allows you to extend your time from your phone, but the costs mounted quickly.
Such a beautiful little town. If you get the train to La Spezia, be mindful that it is very difficult to get a taxi even though there is a rank....so many people waiting for taxis and only one or two turned up. I ended up walking down into town about 500m and asking where to get the bus. Its actually very easy - turn left once you hit the main road with shops and buses and walk to the next section - buy a ticket at the tobacconist on the corner and the bus is just at the next bus stop direct to portevenere. A great starting point if visiting the cinque terra towns too which you can do by ferry.
Beautiful location to wander around. Best done late afternoon or early morning before the day trippers and cruise boats disgorge passengers. Be sure to walk past the town to the church overlooking the entrance from the west
Lovely small village of Porto Venere is walkable and absolutely charming. Lots of tasty and fresh seafood restaurants. Easy access to Cinque Terre by ferries and short drive to bigger city of La Spezia.
Portovenere itself tends to get crowded, even on a week day in September, after the high season has been officially over. In times of COVID19, this can be rather stressing, as the village and streets are small. I think a 2h visit is quite enough if you won’t want to be exploded for too long. So plan your trip to visit other places near-by.
This was the highlight of our holiday in Italy. The town is beautiful, peaceful and still lots to see. We could have spent a week here just relaxing. Highly recommend doing a boat trip - whether it be to other nearby towns or just a tour around the nearby islands. We were traveling with a one year old and it was easy to get around - there is also a wonderful playground right on the water.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Portovenere for 1 night. The structure is splendid, refined and cared for in every detail. It is enriched, moreover, by a beautiful view. The hotel offers all the necessary services to spend an unforgettable stay. The breakfast is complete both for the sweet and the salty section. You must absolutely try the Palmaria Restaurant, the hotel's superlative restaurant. Particular note of merit to the staff, always attentive and available for every need.
Portovenere
The breakfast was well solved despite Corona. Very tasty in a cafe with service. Emanuelle welcomed us at the main square in Portovenere and helped us with the luggage to the hotel. He made our stay very pleasant and answered our questions at any time. For the departure we were offered a coffee/espresso. All in all a great hotel with very nice rooms and wonderful bathrooms.
The location was amazing! We had a room with a balcony. Each night we enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco while watching the sunset. We walked along the waterfront to Byron’s Grotto and the church on the hill. Had dinner at the restaurant of their sister hotel: fantastic food and view. Our room was perfect. Would definitely recommend Hoel Belvedere to friends and family!
Portovenere
We loved the view from the balcony! Apartment was very clean and nicely decorated. Kitchen is a little tight but we didn’t plan on cooking, plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Loved that there were 2 full baths. Appreciated the parking too! Mum was great and owner was very responsive. Loved Portovenere!

The hosts were a super nice and friendly couple. We arrived very late at night but they were waiting for us at the apartment. The apartment is very clean and located in the center of Le Grazie near the bus stop to Portovenere and La Spezia. There are basic things like towels and kitchenware.
The Staff was extremely helpful and The restauarant was romantic and with very good food. Bright room with a lovely view over The small harbour. Normally I prefer 4 or 5 star hotels - but this hotel is a hidden Gem away from the crowds and I really really recommend a stay here.

Portovenere
Portovenere is ideal to visit Cinque Terre. Restaurant Isei is best but about 1.2 km at the other end of town. The walk after dinner was helpful to clear the head from their Spumante house wine.
