We really liked Ravenna. We read many reviews that said to do a day trip or maybe one night here. We stayed one night, but wish that we would have stayed longer. It's such an interesting history, and is relatively relaxing compared to some of the more touristy towns and cities we visited, which was great. Plenty of sites to see, plenty of good food. We would definitely go back. Aca'demia Inn was an excellent place to stay.
A city sinking in history with a diverse past and architecture, sight seeing is easy and centralized great for walks no or biking - amazing mosaics!! Get yourself a tour guide, it’s well worth it. The people are proud of their town and it shows. Restaurants were varied and oh so tasty too!! Just ask a local for some recommendations they are friendly and helpful.
We came to see the mosaics, and we were not disappointed. The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia is by itself worth the journey. We ate one regular meal, at Restaurant Gardela. It was delicious, with many local specialities.
Quiet hence if you need a break from sightseeing or even partying in other places Ravenna is the place to choose. Locals are friendly and do speak English (if language is a barrier) Things to see mosaics, art, museum, churches
Ravenna and the mosaics are amazing. Although we went to Ravenna primarily to visit the World War II Cemetary, we spent a good part of a day touring the mosaics. There are also quaint restaurants with the sights and sounds of Italy. Many people get around by bicycle. Parts of the city are no car zones which makes walking more enjoyable.
The burocrata controlling the historic sites were nasty and untruthful. They tell u that the 7 day pass allows one to come back; but each location can only be visited once. This was critically important because they sold us the 19euro tickets after 5 pm. But, it was not possible to see at that hour due to fading sunlight and poor interior lighting. When we returned the next morning we were denied admission. Bottom line, we traveled hundreds of miles to Ravenna for nothing. On top of all this, the ticket seller woman and ticket collector women were worse than Paris waiters with their dismissive attitude.
“First class B&B! Beautiful room, well appointed, wonderful shower that lets you set the exact temperature of the water! Excellent location in charming Ravenna, and Michael is the perfect host.”
“First experience at a B&B and loved it. Stefania and her husband made us feel very welcomed, very attentive to detail.Location was ideal, centre of Ravenna , next to major piazza's and shopping. ”
“Very modern rooms. Great showers. Kids number one apartment during our vacation in Italy”
“Staff was very helpful getting our car to the hotel to unload and then to park overnight. The breakfast was quite good. Location ideal.”
“Great location and quite a decent breakfast. Wow! The hotel is like half a block from the best entrance to the public accessible beach and 15 minutes from the train station (walking) and/or the bus to San Marino. Super convenient.”
