But wait, there's more. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the largely intact Greek Theater has amazing views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Great summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars feature live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, with a clock tower and church overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the center of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. Buzzing town with lots of independent restaurants and boutiques.
Just a word of caution for those who decide to take a train from Gardinia Taormina, there are no elevators or escalators or help available to cart all the luggage up 2 steep flight of stairs if the train is not from platform 1.

We stayed 4 nights but could have seen it all in 3.
We stayed 4 nights but could have seen it all in 3. More like mini Italy than Sicily. Lots very up market shops. Customers from cruise liners and very classy hotels evident . Very busy, even mid September. Pedestrian area inside the walls. If you want everything on your doorstep this is for you.Views out of this world & vast public garden area & observation point worth a visit. Loads of places to eat & a supermarket if you want to self cater. The beach is adequate but not the best we visited in this part of Sicily. Public transport easy. We used the bus & train. Make sure you purchase tickets in advance on line or from shop in town because they get busy. Easy to walk up and down mountain via trail's if you are active. Do not try mid day because of heat in summer. Remember, this is a hillside resort so do not expect everywhere flat.

Villa Mabel is ideally situated in Taormina positioned almost exactly in the centre of the old town. It is a lovely, characterful, quirky old house with views over some of the old town and lovely ones of the sea. I will always prefer to stay in this style of place over the boring uniformity of chain hotels The staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed Taormina and the villa so much that I extended my stay for another night. However those who like the known deliverables of chain hotels might not appreciate its unique character.
Amazing view from the room and in general from the hotel terraces, not sure if all rooms have a view to the ocean but mine did and truly it was incredible. The installations are great they feel like a higher star ranked hotel, the attention from staff is very good and the breakfast is the best i had in my trip to Italy. Considering the price for everything in Taormina i consider this hotel as a great cost-benefit option
Had the most amazing stay in Taormina. Roberto & all his family made this our favorite stay in a hotel. The rooms were exceptionally clean, we had a spacious room with large balcony/bathroom. Location was perfect, just far enough out from a busy/ lively Centre. Pool always had beds available. As a family we would highly recommend!!!! ( forget about the 2 star rating, this hotel deserves a much higher score )
the location was perfect. A nice easy walk to the centre of Taormina and the shops, restaurants and bars. The most amazing view from our sea view room and public areas of the hotel such as pool, breakfast room and drinks terrace. Room was typically Italian, basic but clean. Lovely cleaning staff for our room.
One of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed out. Great breakfast nothing over the top. Close to the bus or also the trail walk to make your way to Taormina centre. Loved the pool. Good walk from Station if you are backpacking. Great view from my single bed room!
