A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.
The area of San Zeno is stunning where we stayed. Verona has much to offer and we enjoyed two fabulous evenings at the opera during our stay. We also went on a wine tour with Pagus- we would highly recommend this company and the tour also offered us the opportunity to see outside the city and the surrounding area.

Verona is very compact with an abundance of restaurants and good shops. The main Piazza with the arena is impressive. There are plenty of interesting venues to visit and the city bus services are excellent. Verona is well placed to allow visits to other places including Venice and Lake Garda which be easily reached using the very good train system which is cheap and efficient.

Verona is a small city 260,000 that offers an old town full of rich architecture a stroll along the river a roman arena it's charming and bit hordes of tourists like some of the other hotspots we went to like Venezia and Roma. Food was great everywhere. More importantly I would gladly return to explore more. We took a side trip to Lage Garda which was also nice.
