Arabian Nights

Hotel in Wadi Rum

Arabian Nights is a traditional Bedouin camp in the picturesque UNESCO Wadi Rum Protected Area. The camp is run by local Bedouin whose families have inhabited the area for over 300 years. Everyone at Arabian nights was incredible. Kind, knowledgeable, authentic, generous, helpful and fun! Beds and rooms were gorgeous and comfy. We drove past 5 other campsites on the way out to AN, which I really appreciated - there are so many camps to choose from and I was really looking for something remote and deep in the desert (further away from the village). We arrived later than we expected (we were aiming to land at the car park/entrance at 2pm but arrived just after 4pm) - which actually turned out to be a bonus - it meant we witnessed a glorious sunset on our drive in to the camp. Because of the high cliffs and rock formations around the camp you can’t really see the sunset/sunrise. You have to drive to other high places for the best views of the sun. The mountains surrounding the camp were spectacular, especially at night, lying by the campfire and gazing up at the skyline of high cliffs penetrating brilliant layers of stars and constellations. The 4WD tour is a MUST. Sabah took us on the half day tour which was incredible but made us all wish we had more time - i agree with other reviewers who recommend a 2 night/3 day stay. There’s a lot to take in and we all longed for more. Mumu took me out to an incredible sunrise spot (it was a short scramble over some rocks and then a mini hike up a talcum soft, red sand hill to a stunningly poetic 200 degree vantage point of the sunrise.) It was bliss, sitting quietly on a rock ledge, watching the vast desert wake up. The awesomeness of the desert landscape as the sun came up on the horizon was profound and overwhelming. Shaker, Mumu & Sabah were excellent hosts. They played Uno all night with us and my friend’s kids (2 boys aged 9 & 11), set up delicious food, took us on rad adventures and made our desert experience wonderful. They are authentic, gentle and just the right amount of cheeky. ;) Highly recommend for solo travelers and for families with kids.
