Located within 22 miles of Sakitsu Catholic Church and 24 miles of Oe Tenshudo Church, Amakusa Prince Hotel has rooms in Amakusa. We had a lovely harbour view room, traditional Japanese tatami room with a small enclosed balcony with chairs and table. It was a convenient location. Staff were helpful and welcoming. The onsen was quite nice too. Most guests ordered their food in to their rooms but we ate dinner out in a restaurant. The lounge was a nice place to sit back with a coffee after breakfast. The hotel had a nice, welcoming atmosphere.
Located right in front of Shimabara Bay, Hotel Kawacho offers simple rooms. Guests can request massages for an extra cost or relax in the public salt bath. Hondo Bus Stop is a 10-minute drive away. Wonderful seafood restaurant, conversation with its owner, and the view overlooking the bay.
Located right in front of Tomioka Beach, Minshuku Tairyomaru offers indoor public baths and free WiFi in public areas. Air conditioned rooms feature a 32-inch flat-screen TV and a seating area. This beach place is beautiful and worth heading to, especially if you have a car. Though it's so good I'd consider taking the bus if you don't have wheels. The town borders a national park with a stunning coastal/jungle walk that circles around the Tomioka Castle. The swimming beach is protected and the water is calm and warm. You can swim laps along its glassy, clear surface. Not a soul here when we came. There's a great supermarket just out of town for self catering. We did not try any restaurants - but that's just us. Tomioka is a beautiful, simple fishing village with one of the best beaches in Japan. It's a photographer's paradise. There is a very pretty Inari Shrine and Tori Gate on the road up to the castle. Perhaps things are different at the height of the tourist season. Mid September we had it all to ourselves. I felt we were in some lonely South Pacific island location! The welcome we received and the hospitality was astonishing. Rica, our host, speaks perfect English and Spanish and went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. We could use washing machine free of charge. Had hot water for drinks delivered to our room whenever we liked. We were plied with little gifts of food and sweets during our time there. The rooms are traditional, futon, tatami based with wash basin. There is a comfy chair in the room for those with knee problems, etc. air conditioning etc. The shared toilets just out of your room. The price of the room is very reasonable. Stunning value. Wonderful location.
Good foods and various natures! Amakusa is one of the best place to stay for vacation. although access from airports, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Kumamoto, are not easy, more than 2 hours drive required. When you love a propeller plane, Amakusa local airport could be alternative one with transit time.
