The hotel is directly out the back of Fukui train station. Great location. Very clean and breakfast was great. The staff are amazing. We accidentally left behind a jacket, they found it and shipped it to Osaka the next day. They even coordinated with the hotel in Osaka to receive the package. Incredible service. The value is really good as well.

Friendly staff. Near a fabulously huge shopping centre. Great place to stay, if like us, you were visiting Eiheji (first Zen temple in Japan). Great onsen and plenty of free parking. Breakfast was included and really good.

Fukui is a great place to visit and a little off the beaten track given it's position on the East coast, and separated from Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, but huge mountains. The trains kind of have to go around them, so it is an area that hasn't developed in terms of tourism so quickly. However, it is a beautiful area with a rich history and beautiful coastline. There are ancient temples and castles everywhere, and beautiful beaches. I haven't been to the dinosaur museum as I was in Fukui for work during the school holidays and I heard it would be packed. May visit it next time.

Enjoyed the Dinosaur museum!

Enjoyed the Dinosaur museum! I was surprised by the number of dinosaur species on display. We really enjoyed the Ichijodani museum and especially the towns preserved history. Learned a lot about the Asakura family in Japan's history. The Daihonzan Eiheiji Temple was really awesome. It was remote, beautiful, and spiritual.

Eihei-ji was a surprisingly large temple that you can see inside for a reasonable price - take the bus from Fukui Station, I took the Echizen Train and it wasn't convenient at all. Maruoka Castle was interesting as one of only 12 original castles left in Japan, although it won't take that long to see everything and the visitor centre. Awara Onsen had a huge station. It was confusing for a day-tripper about where to go for a bath, it seems like most of the nicer ones don't open to the public until mid-afternoon.

It's a lot quieter than Tokyo or Osaka in comparison, but because of this felt very peaceful and I had a wonderful time exploring the town. The dinosaurs were very cute! Unfortunately I didn't manage to stay long enough for my liking, but definitely look forward to returning in the future.

We enjoyed the parts of town we were able to experience during our short stay. The train station and surrounding area is dinosaur themed. It's really quite cool and very unique. During our stay we visited the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum which our family (kids are aged 14 & 11) enjoyed. The train (and bus) trip to the museum was scenic and very pleasant. Due to the size of Fukui it was easy to get around. There are plenty of places to eat and shop (again not too far from the train station). I wish we could've stayed a little longer.

Fukui has a beautiful modern railroad station serving up old-school rail lines that go through the rice fields to the surrounding area as well as Japan's fastest Shinkansen to Osaka and Kyoto. This station's decor showcases dinosaurs celebrating the largest discovery of remains in Japan to be found nearby. The station's tourist bureau, which has an English-speaking staff member available, has tours to the dinosaur museum and several other local sites, but trains and dinosaurs must be a wonderful way to travel with children. The tourist bureau provided me with a local walking map to gardens and a ruined castle even though I actually traveled to Fukui to only to visit Eiheiji, a Zen Monastery active since the 13th-century -- which was wonderful.
