Located in Hakone, 4.8 miles from Hakone-Yumoto Station, Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora, an IHG Hotel provides accommodations with a fitness center, free private parking, a garden and a restaurant. We were met with sparkling wine while waiting for check-in we had a 5 night stay . Our room was lovely, also very modern. The outdoor tub was wonderful with the sound of the river. I saw other reviews saying the town across the river was an eyesore, but it didn't bother us at all we had a great view over the hills and snow all over them . Dinner was amazing. Cocktails were on point; everything we ordered was delicious Jayar was fantastic at his job. The spa and sauna area was very relaxing and top quality (we basically had it to ourselves. The dinner on the first night was excellent. The breakfast every mornings was very tasty. Staff were all kind and professional with a cool relaxed vibe. The room we booked was HUGE. The bathroom was amazing. The entire bathing area was walled off in glass and inside there was a shower, a bench, and the huge Onsen tub on the balcony . The windows had electric wooden blinds that you could remotely raise and lower for privacy. They hotel offered a shuttle to the local train station which was very helpful . Coffee was served at our table at breakfast The room was well equipped with the latest technology, plenty of USB ports for charging devices. Huge lovely bed with plenty of soft pillows, thick bath towels, and thick bathrobes. Japanese clothes were available too. We liked the staff uniforms, jeans and upper shirt and waistcoats which gave a casual but trendy style. Very much enjoyed our stay. Thanks to all the staff for doing a great job. Jayar the food and Beverage manager remembered our coffee an food very good service we will come again

My friend and I planned a two-day itinerary in and around Hakone with a two-night stay at a ryokan near Gora station. We purchased a three-day Hakone Freepass with a round-trip journey to and from Shinjuku station; sadly the third day was only for our trip back to the station since we have an afternoon flight to catch in Narita. Hakone is such a beautiful place to visit, away from the buzzling city life of Tokyo. We visited some great spots such as the Open-Air Museum, Togendai Port for a wonderful lake cruise and Onshi-Hakone Park. Unfortunately due to strong winds, we were not able to visit Owakudani. So, our plan had to change a bit. Nevertheless, it was still a great trip and we would love to come back to do a 'revenge' trip of sorts with other places to check out. To expand on the freepass, we were able to use most of the transport options around Hakone, thus it is definitely worth to get it. It is also best to plan the journeys in advance, especially knowing the last bus or train in a certain location. We once made a mistake of missing our last bus to take on the way back to our accomodation, but thankfully there was an alternate route although much longer. And to ease the search of finding breakfast or dinner, we opted for a breakfast and dinner course at our accomodation.
Overall very pleasant trip which we enjoyed, but it can get very crowded on friday and while the ship, trains and cable cars were reliable and we always got in, when we tried to get from Motohakone to Tonosawa, the buses were crowded and we waited more than hour to get to the bus. There is lots of tourist attractions, museums, hiking paths etc., we bought the Hakone freepass from Odawara and it was very convenient. We kept our suicases in the baggage storage in Odawara and travelled only with our backpacks, which made the travelling very convenient. Keep an eye on the closing time of the ship and cable cars.
Lots of museums in the area. There are buses, trains, cable cars, and gondolas used as transportation, so lots of variety and options for getting around. Food options close very early in the evening, so be sure to eat by around 5pm. The pirate ship is worth the ride even without the Hakone freepass, but I don't think the upgrade to first class is necessary.
Hakone is a beautiful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Japanese cities. The perfect place to reconnect with nature. The lake is really nice and there are both boat rides and canoe services available. Plenty of gardens and nature walks to go on. A volcano you can go up and a scenic train you can relax on. The town areas are also nice with plenty of yummy food available and kind locals. There are also a few museums/galleries you can visit. I especially liked the Open Air Museum. Getting around Hakone is not as easy as the cities since you'll have to take the bus as your primary mode of transport but, as is normal in Japan, they are plenty and timely. I highly recommend getting your hands on the Hakone Pass as it saves you a lot of money. I also recommend using a luggage forwarding service to get your bags to your hotel or onsen. This will save you the struggle on the bus, you'll definitely thank yourself later as you sit on a packed bus going around 45 degree corners at 40ks and hour 🤣
Hakone is perfect for experiencing traditional Ryokan and Onsen and is one of the best places for views of Mount Fuji. The Hakone Freepass provides unlimited travel on train, ropeway and pirate ship cruise on lake Ashi, as well as some buses, but needs to be purchased from Hakone-Yumoto station. Well worth visiting, with many options for sightseeing including a Picasso exhibition at the Hakone Open Air museum.
Relaxing place just half an hour outside of Tokyo. The nature is beautiful and so unique with the maple trees and lake Ashi. Did the ropeway all the way to the top and tried the black eggs. You can also leave the luggage at the hakone station for the day. Definitely a must visit when in Japan. Small tip- whenever you see a souvenir or something you want to try- go for it straight away as some things are unique and you will not be able to buy elsewhere.
Hakone
It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!
Hakone
central location directly at the top train station with a nice and friendly, almost familylike concept. Young staff, a nice little onsen in-house and everything you want in your room. The whole building ist old, but was refurbished recently in a modern, student like style. Good and priceworthy accomodation in Hakone. But don't book it as a "real ryokan", it just a family style hotel for young couples and families.
Hakone
⭕️ We stayed here for one night and another on a different hotel, but we noticed that when going to our destinations, we ALWAYS passed by this place. ✅ It’s very accessible to almost all the travel spots in Hakone and it’s very near Hakone-Yumoto Station. ⭕️ The bar looked great. ⭕️ You can bring your own food and spend time until 11PM, which is the quiet hour. ⭕️ The staff were accomodating and helpful. Thank you, btw!
Hakone
The location is perfect for traveling around Hakone. There is no designated parking but there is plenty of parking across the street. It is public parking right in front of lake Ashi. But most importantly the owner is amazing. He was very hospitable and he gave amazing tips for traveling around the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return if the opportunity arises.
Hakone
Convenient location for sight seeing outside of the main tourist area of Lake Ashinoko. The bus transport system is great and allows you to easily travel to all the key sight seeing spots— definitely get the Hakone Free Pass for ease of use and an excellent economical option. Staff were very helpful to give advice each day on where to visit, or any issues we may encounter.
Hakone
the outdoor onsen was great and skin was noticeably softer after use. the hotel also provided a free welcome drink as well as free in-room beer/juice/drip coffe and tea. we particularly liked the yukata which added to the Japanese onsen experience. Breakfast was tasty and hearty. 5 mins walk to Gora Station.
The room, dinner and breakfast was excellent. The management upgraded our room and it was fantastic….especially having our own private onsen in the room. The bus stops steps away from the hotel entrance so it’s convenient to use the Hakone Free Pass.
Hakone
Nice location and a 15 minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station. in the mornings they offer a hotel shuttle to the station until 10:30am. Room is spacious. in the onsen there is a massage chair for free use which I liked to use after a long day.
Beautiful outdoor onsen and a super comfortable bed! Breakfast was delicious and the grounds of the hotel are lovely to walk around in. There is a bus stop outside the hotel too, so you can get around Hakone easily.
Hakone
Exceptional views (superior room with lake view), convenient location and excellent service. Hakone Hotel is old but well kept and charming in every way. Recommend trying their French course menu for dinner.
Hakone
The staff was very helpful. They told us about discounted tickets to Onsens nearby which came in handy during our visit to Hakone! They also helped us out with bus routes and nearby convenience stores!

Great Japanese hotel experience. Very friendly staff, especially Satchiko-san who found me the longest yukata available. Onsen bath on the balcony with a view of the river was great.
