Centered around a peaceful Japanese garden, Tobaya Ryokan offers traditional rooms with air conditioning, an LCD TV and shared baths. Very dedicated owner they took us back to the jR train station, and did everything to make our stay as excellent as possible. Excellent traditional japanese restaurant less than one minute (forgot the name but when you exit the ryokan, take right, then right again at the next intersection - The restaurant is 50 meter along the street on the right side...

Located in Hikone, a 10-minute walk from Hikone Castle, Honmachi Juku provides accommodations with a shared lounge, free private parking and a garden. The ryokan features family rooms. Location wise, it couldn’t have been better, right next to the old-new town( the place with all the cool kura style buildings). It is also a hop away from the castle and a hop, skip and jump away from the lake. It is a traditional Japanese house with Tatami floors and you wake up to the sound of birds!
Hikone is just the right distance from Kyoto when travelling by bicycle to ride around Lake Biwa. Its castle grounds turn pink in the spring cherry blossom season and reflect beautifully in the moat's waters. Other seasons have their own distinctive attractions. In all seasons the local beef is great, all you need is an appetite.
Nice castle and the lake. It will probably take just a day to see everything. There aren’t really much else to do, so I would recommend Hikone to those, who can’t go to Himeji or who really like castles. There are nice mountains as well, but this is another story.
I enjoyed walking around the castle and garden. I was surprised by how much there was to see at the castle grounds. I found myself intrigued by the architecture and most of all the view from the castle was amazing. You get a 360 view of the whole town including Lake Biwa.
Off the beaten tourist track, with just enough to do for a leisurely two day get-away. We had a rental car, and made our way to the Rainbow Line Summit Park, which had a spectacular 360 degree view of 5 lakes, each with a slightly different colour hue because of their different mineral content/concentration and depth.
Lovely small (by Japanese standards) town. Quiet, fantastic castle and grounds, nice views of the mountains surrounding Lake Biwa, nice temples on the nearby hills. Friendly people. Small enough that it's easy to walk most places. Lack of easy public transportation makes local travel further more difficult. Good area for birders, many species of waterfowl on the lake and in the castle moats. Not a great food selection.
I was only here briefly but it was a good base to visit Hikone castle and also go for a ferry ride to Chibuku island. So.much of Japan is built up that I loved getting out onto the open space of Lake Biwa
Free parking, near a mall (food court), communal baths (I didn`t know that until I had already used the one in the room), great breakfast, amazing value, there is a kettle, tea, coffee service in the lobby, quiet although the hotel was clearly full as it was a national holiday

I was collected from the train station (the tourist information office rang them to say I had arrived) and taken back the next day. Otherwise would’ve been a 15-20 min walk. The Ryokan was beautiful - traditional rooms and shower/bath room. The staff were lovely!

NIce, small, establishment. Simple but good breakfast. Friendly staff. Good facilities and very clean. The location was very convenient to Hikone attractions and to local restaurants etc. Despite some shortcomings, we would stay there again.
Wonderful location, host, and property. Very comfortable and cozy, impressive given how spacious the apartment is. Great bathroom/toilet/shower. Highly recommend.
The location is excellent - near to railway station. I really liked the breakfast - it was served rather than buffet. Small but nice!
It is close to restaurants, station and shopping centers. Clean and very convenient.

That's a very local love hotel. Expect funny rooms with strange facilities.
