We were pleasantly surprised at how much we liked our visit to Hiroshima. There is a friendly energy to the city which offers more than just a visit to the Peace Park and Memorial Museum.
We loved going to the okonimiyaki restaurants, and the Shukkeien Garden in the late afternoon light was quite beautiful. Be sure to check what special exhibit is showing at the Prefectural Art Museum, where we saw a well-curated showing of Kadama Kibo's work.

A sobering experience.
A sobering experience. Difficult to absorb the scale of the devastation of the bomb dropping and the impact on the Japanese people. The stories presented in the museum of the ordinary people who suffered in the attack are truly heart-breaking, but also the capacity of the Japanese people in rebuilding Hiroshima demonstrates an amazing tenacity for life. An amazing place.
On a lighter note - the Okonomiyaki is a fantastic local meal 😊

I am mobility handicapped. The taxis are not equipped to handle my scooter. BUT hotel location was close enough to either use public buses or walk.
I booked a bus excursion with Viatar . They were very helpful, great trip, wonderful guide, worth the money.

The city has lots to do (history tours, drinking spots, food spots) with famous meals like Okonomikyaki.
It's a great base to other trips within Hiroshima prefecture too- for example, I went to Miyajima (the island with the beach, forests and deer on it) and cycled the Shimanami Kaido near Onomichi (highlight of my trip- a 70km cycling trail along the islands in a national park).
It is however very touristy (for obvious reasons). For a similiar trip with nearby nature (Mount Inasa, voted 3rd best nighttime view in the world and a volcano) and history (second Abomb hypocentre), Nagasaki was also a beautiful coastal town with less tourists.

This probably reflects more on me than anything, but before visiting Hiroshima, I only thought of it as the site of the first use of the atomic bomb. But once you are there, it is an interesting, vibrant city with lots of things to see and do. Our only regret was that we only stayed two nights. Next time, we will stay at least twice as long.

Pleasantly surprised by Hiroshima.
Pleasantly surprised by Hiroshima. It is a vibrant city in a lovely setting, nestled on the Hiroshima Bay and surrounded by tree covered high hills. Seeing the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome was a very sobering and memorable experience. We stayed at the Grand Prince Hotel, a truly grand hotel which was the location of the G7 summit in 2023. Took a hydrofoil to Itsukushima Island on a sunny Saturday in October and had a very nice time exploring the island and enjoying the view from the boat ride to the island. We had decided to rent a car, and found navigating the city quite easy, even while driving on the "wrong side of the road".

The hotel was perfect for what we needed which was a two night stay so as we could visit the peace park and museum at Hiroshima. We caught a cab to the hotel as it's a bit too far to walk with your luggage but was an inexpensive trip, the hotel is in a pretty cool area, quite a few restaurants around, a few massage places around which we were not quite sure about, but a easy walk to the peace park and the shopping area.
Nice comfy beds and a good bathroom. We didn't opt for the breakfast, we sorted ourselves out for that.
I had a very pleasant stay at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn, in Hiroshima.
Its very close to the main station, but is not disturbed by any noise. Also right next to a tram, so getting into town is very easy and there is also a 24/7 Lawson in the entrance to the hotel.
Rooms were nice, fresh and clean, and the lobby had free choice of ammidities. Check-in was easy as it was self-service.
All in all, I would recommend staying here if I return to Hiroshima.
As always, this hotel offers value for its service accommodations. It always feels like a home, away from home.
The staff will come to you to inquire about your needs; not you having to approach the counter.
The food service is quick, efficient and flavorful.
This hotel will go beyond the usual, that one usually sees at other properties.
No complaints about Sheraton Grand Hiroshima
Nice stay in Hiroshima with easy access to the main attractions such as the Peace Park and the Dome and also to the tram to Miyajima Island. The room was clean, comfortable and large enough for 5 adults. The hotel is located in a quiet area with konbinis just a few minutes away.
We had a good stay in this hotel, great value for money for sure. Close to bars and restaurants also to Hiroshima’s main station. Easy check in. Lots of shops around.
