Probably most tourists visit Iga/Ueno for the historical associations with ninja and samurai. It must be noted that the location of this hotel is less than optimal if you are travelling by train or bus. However, if you have a car, no worries. This is obviously a business hotel. Everything about it shouts that out loud. However, it is a decently-priced hotel for the tourist on a budget. Nothing about the hotel was bad. Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was more than adequate. The standout points were the free (and delicious) coffee available in the foyer and the wonderful, helpful staff. Iga City has a large number of things to see and do. If we had known beforehand just how much, we would have stayed two nights. This hotel would have been a cost-effective base for that.

If you are looking for a camp site with all the essentials, this is the place. The host and owner Aki-San is very friendly and easy going to accomodate his customers. We were upgraded from a tent site to an interior building site. It had a heater and attached to a shared kitchen. The restroom was next door and a hot shower was in the next building a few steps away. We had a quiet, restful evening and woke up to birds singing. He does offer other services , so look up his website.

We were happy with the Route Inn because they are bike-friendly and allow you to keep your bikes in your room. The restaurant has fair prices. Our room was quiet and had everything we needed. It was very nice to relax in the spa after a long day‘s cycle.

Nice park with a historical castle, with impressive stone walls raising from the moat, and good views of the town. Ninja museums and dojos were exciting, and the museum and monuments of the poet Basho very interesting. A trip to the near-by village of Tsukigase was pleasant as it happened to be the plum blossoming time and the village is famous for beautiful plum trees and the "ume matsuri".

Loved the city!

Loved the city! I always dreamt of visiting the "Ninja City" to visit all the cultural places there! Had the chance to go to the Akame 48 Waterfalls, Iga-Ueno Castle, the Iga-ryu Ninja Museum, Matsuo Basho's memorial museum, had nice meals in traditional local restaurants such as Tenrakuza Wakaya, and had a great opportunity to visit an amazing antiques shop called Kobijutsuhin Ooyabu Shokodou( 古美術大薮尚古堂), where the store owner showed me swords, spears, armors, pottery, and jitte! Definitely a nice city to visit if you love the Ninja Culture and Japanese History!

The top attractions for Iga are usually Iga-Ueno castle, the ninja house and the ninja museum where you can learn a lot about the daily life of a ninja, their skills, and what they kept and wore. If you're a fan of ninjas in general, of course, Iga is the best place to have an adventure in. I only stayed for a couple of days, and one of those days was spent travelling to Nagoya (via the Ise-Kumano JR Pass), so I wasn't able to look around as much. Still, it was a worthwhile trip and I would probably have stayed longer if I could, maybe even try the onsen. It's one of those rural trips that help your mind be at ease from the daily stress in the city.
