Kanazawa was an easy train trip from Kyoto. We're glad we took the time to stop over on our way back from Takayama. The old town, the kenroku-en gardens etc.. were very busy with tourists in May, but hey ... we were tourists too! The market felt more genuine than others we'd visited and the prices were more realistic.
Gardens amazing especially as the festival meant that they were illuminated and open til late. Gyokuseninmaru very lovely with light show. Samurai house well worth a visit, as was Seisonkaku. Everyone very helpful, relaxed atmosphere and very sorry to leave.
Although crowned as 'small-Kyoto', I think is it much less quieter and more relaxing than Kyoto (over crowded with tourist all year round), and good for at least 2-3 days for exploring or relaxation. There is a port nearby so the seafood is also quite good, fresh, and moderately priced. Now there is a direct shinkansen from Tokyo to Kanazawa so it will likely be busier in the weekends and holidays; try to avoid coming at these times and then it should be quite nice.
Great litttle town and easy walking. Great station. Omichi markets for food but get there early because you will be waiting in long queues for meals! Great for fresh fish! Also great brewery serving japan craft beers (oriental brewery) Great Japanese gardens - Kenrokuen. Kanazawa castle near by. And Nagamachi area - small version of Kyoto. Gold leaf ice cream and everything gold! The contemporary art museum is worth visit too. Go early to avoid long wait. Two nights is sufficient stay.
Kanazawa has a long history and many connections with old Kyoto. The architecture in the "old town", one Japanese friend told me, is like Kyoto was 150 years ago. One of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan is there. The castle and gounds are magnificent. There is a lot of hotel and restaurant choice, and one of our best meals was there (at the oddly- named PLAT Home.)
I read that Kanazawa was like a "little Kyoto" and agree. It includes the old geisha tea-house district, samurai district, a castle, a beautiful Japanese garden (Kenroku-en), its own Omicho market, and amazing, fresh seafood. It's a more compact city with very convenient loop buses running between all the major attractions. Kanazawa felt less overwhelming than Kyoto. As a practicing Buddhist, one of the highlights was visiting the D. T. Suzuki Museum, where the architecture sets the conditions for a meditative visit--excellent experience there!

Kenroku heights was very convenient and easy to find. The staff was in contact with us by email and through the booking app, and provided clear and helpful instructions (in Japanese) to location. The hotel is close to several of the big sights in Kanazawa, and is near several bathhouses and laundromats. The room had a small refrigerator and a stovetop to boil water in the morning. It was very quiet location, and my group thought it was comfortable and wasn’t too hot or cold. They seemed to have some English support.

Peaceful surroundings located near a beautiful temple. Its It's a boutique ryokan with only 7 rooms, hence it is a lovely and quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. Staff were very attentive and gave excellent Japanese hospitality. Luxurious Aesop toiletries were also provided! Kaiseki breakfast and dinner were an absolute standout and a must. Within walking distance to Kenroku-en Gardens and Kanazawa Castle. We would love to return one day.

THE BEST WiFi I HAD IN JAPAN! Fast and reliable. The location is great, a few minutes walk from Kenrokuen, kanazawa castle and nagamachi district, right next to the korinbo bus stop from there it's a short bus ride to the train station, higashi chaya district and omicho market. There is also a lot of shopping nearby. The hotel itself was clean, and the staff was really helpful. The room was beautiful, spacious and convenient, elegantly designed and quiet.

There’s a massage chair in the room which is nice and soothing. The hotel is 7-8 minutes’ walk to the Kanazawa station. 2-3 minutes’ walk to the Family Mart left to the hotel. Staff were quite helpful and polite enough as we were quite late to check-out.(10am for checkout is just too early(｡ì _ í｡)) There were shared umbrellas and rain boots at the lobby entrance, very thoughtful of them.

Nice ryokan in Kanazawa city center and next to Samurai district. The staff was super nice and was able to arrange a gluten free Japanese breakfast for me which was delicious (better to let them know in advance). They also give suggestions on where to eat and are very helpful. The room was clean and cozy, with view on the inner garden. There is a hot water bath available. Recommended.

Everything! The room was so spacious and cosy at the same time. I loved it. I definitely recommend this ryokan if you are coming to Kanazawa. Just a tip if you are not used to typical japanese food : skip the breakfast and take the dinner!
