The host speaks good English and is very nice and helpful and open to just chatting. The location was great with easy access by foot to two train stations and just a minute up from the main street and the shoreline and just a few minutes walk from the plenty of things worth exploring.

Scenic little town with lots to view. We walked the town and explored all the tourist sights. Took a short boat ride around the bay for 1000¥ ,if you want to sit upstairs on boat you’ll need to pay another 600¥. Main Shrine currently under renovation

It's amazing.
It's amazing. There's such an incredible amount to do and see. We explored for 5 hours two days in a row in the freezing cold and would do it again in a heartbeat it was so nice. So many restaurants, hotels, gift shops, places of outstanding beauty, museums... amazing.

It is really a beautiful view, with all those small islands covered with pine trees! The region is very prepared for the tourists, including bridge to one of the islands for people that like to walk around the trees!
The Zuiganji temple is one of the most beautiful I've seen!

Very beautiful coastal town!
Very beautiful coastal town!
Having two different train stations on each side of the town, makes the getting to/from very flexible and easy.
Definitely a must see when visiting Sendai or the Tohoku/Myagi Area.

Matsushima is a tiny place and does not have a lot to offer...
Matsushima is a tiny place and does not have a lot to offer - also like any other traditional Japanese town it closes down at 6 PM - literally. Most restaurants and shops are closed, the streets atr dark. Not much to do. It is a great place for a short stopover.
An amazing traditional Japanese hotel (ryokan), exceeding all expectations. Hotel staff went out of their way to greet the guests and make them feel welcome. Rooms are very stylish and clean, and the view of the Matsushima bay is gorgeous. Amenities include an open-air onsen (hot bath) with the view of the bay. Dinner was also very special and tasty. We had a lovely time here, and if I'm ever visiting Japan again, I'll make sure to return to this ryokan for a couple of days.
An amazing stay in Taikanso ! It is extremely clean and comfortable. what I love most is the Matsushima Bay view from the hotel, breakfast spread and the service provided. All staff were attentive to our needs from the moment we stepped into the hotel - from the reception to the beautiful piano melody for the guests, to the restaurant operators. Never felt so welcomed :) there is also a free shuttle to/fro train station . thank you for the amazing stay!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean, large room with private bathroom and toilet. Great view onto the bay. Accessible rooftop with 360° view. Multiple shared baths (onsen) including outdoor bath. The first morning there was a buffet style breakfast as advertised, the second morning a rich traditional Japanese style breakfast. The free shuttle service from / to the train station is convenient if you have a lot of luggage.
The excellent breakfast, the jazz music, the wood fire in the evening, the proximity to the town and the park nearby, the easy washing machine and dryer, pleasant, helpful staff. Also the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean. The Japanese baths were great. We hadn't expected those- so an added extra. The free shuttle service to the station was a good help.
Absolutely beautiful hotel, with the nicest owners and staff. Our rooms were comfy and well appointed in the traditional Japanese style. The breakfast was very nice and inexpensive, we liked having 3 main choices. Location was great, a nice stroll into town, and we had a great view of the fireworks on our last night. One member of our party also enjoyed the onsen!!
The welcome ! The amazing garden, the "japanese" path inside the house with the sand area fully zen!
The confort of this traditional house despite the winter and the snow outside!
A nice and tasty breakfast !
And at the end the simple onsen with the provided yukatas
Our room (japanese style) was large enough - we took the 26m2.
Thank you for everything!
The food was outstanding (we are french and therefore very picky with this). The onsen facilities were also great although the watter was a bit too hot. The personel was definitely the best part, especially Nana, who spoke flawless English and really took the time to answer all questions and guide us through the Japanese culture. Special thanks to her!
The owner was an amazing guy, he speaks fluent English, and was very passionate about Matsushima. Gave me a great recommendation about where to eat lunch, and a couple places I absolutely had to see in my short stay there. The home was super comfortable, and the location was as good as you can get if you want to be next to the coast/temples/downtown.
Eiju is super nice and quite knowledgeable about Japan!
He was a great host and fun to talk to. He will always give you recommendations for your next trip wherever you're going.
Also the house was new, clean and close to everything to do in Matsushima.
Would stay there again and recommend it to anyone!
It was absolutely beautiful with a view of the bay from our room. The room was very nicely decorated and spacious. Staff were so nice and helpful! And the food is excellent. We loved soaking our feet on the terrace!
The beautiful hotel had an excellent room with a view. We do not like buffets, but we made exception. Each main meal was made to order. Best high quality sushi and steak. We will definitely recommend to our friends.
Great onsen (women and men separate) with a view on the Matsushima bay from the 5th floor, delicious meals prepared in front of you, refreshments during the day included. Overall very nice chilled experience!
The hotel was quite nice, little bit old fashioned, but clean. The room was large enough, in traditional Japanese style (tatami).
The spa ("onsen") was really good, we enjoy it very much!
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They waited for us for dinner because we got lost finding the hotel. The food was very good and the onsen was relaxing. and uncrowded.
Very large room. Very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and dinner with large buffet. Easy walk to main street of Matsushima. We recommend and would return.
The Japanese style breakfast was excellent and large, more than I could eat. Situated on a slight rise, there was a good view from our window on the third floor.
