Make sure you include a half day trip to see the Snow Monkeys. Well worth the time and experience. If you are looking to save a little money, you can by a Snow Monkey pass from the Nagano Dentetsu line side of the station, which includes a two day unlimited usage of the local buses/trains and entrance into the Snow Monkey park (cost = 3,500 YEN)
Very friendly and inviting city. I enjoyed making soba myselfe in the Togakushi Soba Museum which can easily be reached by bus. Can recommend this to any food lover as it never tastes better than when you have experienced the process first hand.
Nagano is quaint, relatively quiet, well-paced, not crowded and easy to get around. It is less expensive and touristy, compared to other larger Japanese cities. Nice balance between old and new, city and suburban living.
Nice getaway from Tokyo without long journey. Wonderful temple and city of manageable size. Onsen 10 minute taxi ride from station. Friendly to Westeners, and decent dining choices at station if you're hesitant about exploring
Nice for skiing, hiking and shopping definitely. Only about 30 minutes by JR from Nagano station to Karuizawa Prince Outlet. If u want to skiing, there are some places excellent for skiing , we also visit Jigokudani Snow monkey onsen.
The snow monkeys were awesome! We really enjoyed it. We also went skiing for the first time at Happo One. The snow was beautiful and we had so much fun! Nagano was like the central location for all the activities. Great location and easy to get around to the surrounding cities, ski resorts, and attractions. We used yelp to look for restaurants and ate ramen a lot just to try it. We were not disappointed.

The hotel is good value for money. Basic Japanese business hotel. It was close to station, clean and conformable. I knew breakfast was only toast, juice and coffee so no problems. Handy to grab something before heading out.mstaff we very helpful. Microwave in foyer handy for heating up food. The food halls in the department stores at station have great food to take to hotel. I will stay again without hesitation, BTW the windows in my room opened for those who like fresh air. Laundromat was very welcomed.

Easy walk to Nagano station and nearby convenience stores. Friendly, helpful staff and even a robot to interact with, which was fun. Free coffee and tea available in the lobby. Comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms (for Japan). Good placement for our family with two rooms next to each other at the end of the corridor, so safe to split teenagers and adults. Great view of train lines for train enthusiasts, but train noise didn’t continue late into the night.

5 minute walk from Nagano train station. Hotel entrance next to Lawson mini market. Hotel is spotlessly clean, rooms not large but adequate. Bathroom relatively spacious. Breakfast not included but for some ¥1250 buffet breakfast available. Good selection and great value for money. Staff all polite, courteous and friendly. Most speak English to some extent so no communications whatsoever. Good free WiFi in room and public area. All in all - excellent

Very nice old traditional Japanese house. A spacious common room. Good welcome. The dormitory is very nice, quiet and the bed is very good. About 25 min on foot from train Nagano station and there we are very close the Zenkō-ji temple, a beautifull area to hang around. The neighborhood is very peacefull traditional Japanese style. So take some time in Nagano and stop at Dot. Onegaishimasu

The manager is very friendly and helpful. Nagano is such a great city, we stayed for 2 nights but could have stayed longer. The room is very big with a seating area and a large bathroom. There are good amount of amenities. This hotel has quirks too, as a refurbished love hotel you might find some funny additions but that's what makes Japan great!

The location was great as it was quite easily accessible from JR Nagano station. Located in a quiet area so absolutely no noise will ensure sound sleep. If you’re someone who can adjust in small cramped spaces, then it’s a good place for a night or two. The owner is very very kind and friendly. He speaks good English and is very organised.

Great location near the train station; and close to sights and restaurants. The rooftop pool was wonderful and unexpected. The breakfast restaurant was fine. If I was traveling to Nagano for business this hotel would be on the top of my list. Great blackout curtains, too.

I have been living in Japan for quite some time but this was the first opportunity that I had to stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan (inn). It was an unforgettable experience, I felt truly like I had traveled back in time and the scene in the morning was absolutely stunning. Great traditional Japanese breakfast and excellent service by the staff. I would also like to thank the owners for going out of their way to assist me with my car and the inclement weather.

The. Girl who did our check in had good English and very pleasant. We were travelling with our 15year old granddaughter which makes finding the room in medium priced hotels a challenge, but must say this hotel made the grade.
