Located in the historical world heritage site of Ainokura village, Minshuku Yomoshirou offers Japanese-style accommodations in a traditional Gassho-style house with thatched roofs. Couldn't say more! It was my best experience in Japan so far! Love the traditional Gassho house and very warm and welcoming host. The house is 300 years according to the owner but it was very well maintain. Dinner and breakfast was superb too! Home cook food with very fresh ingredients from the farm and river. I will go back for sure!

The 200 years old Minshuku Goyomon lies amid Ainokura Village, a World Heritage Site with centuries old Gassho-style houses and a traditional local community. The house itself is a Japanese work of art. It is kept as is except for the modernized bathroom and toilet. Bowl is fully automated. You get the flashback of living your childhood if you grew up in a rural place. Absolutely recommended to those who want to experience Japanese village life in a day or two.

Featuring free WiFi, Guest House YAMASHITA-YA offers accommodations in Nanto, 19 mi from Kanazawa. Free private parking is available on site. Shirakawa Village is a 40-minute bus ride away. The owner is very helpful. Even though I had two days plan to stay at her facility, she advised to move to city as the snow was getting heavy. Because of her advise I escaped severe climate in which lot of people got stuck. Even before the travel she had warned the climate will be severe and she is okay to accept cancelation with out any fine. Gave snow boots to go for sight seeing in the snow and gave lot of good survival tips. I recommend staying here.

At Akaokan, guests can relax in the spacious public hot-spring baths and visit the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located a 20-minute drive away. The room was very spacious and equipped with hot water, tea, delicious cakes and a wonderful private seating area. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were complimentary and were delicious. Using the onsen was a luscious experience. We got a glimpse of what the Japanese living quarters were like for the merchants and samurai of old. It was a highly relaxing and rejuvenating stay.

I like the warm hospitality, clean fully equipped facilities, basic needs that you can buy or rent If ever you missed something and they serve delicious meal for dinner and breakfast at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this place to anyone who want to experience the Japanese omotenashi (hospitality)
We felt Ainokura was the best of the thatched gassho-zukuri villages to stay over-night in-least tour buses. It's very different after the buses leave, so stay over-night. Late afternoons and mornings are so nice, and you will really see and stay in a very traditional home with a family.
Great location for seeing the nearby gassho villages. Staff was very helpful even with language barriers. The room given to me was spacious and comfortable save the bed pillows, which were hard and small enough to make sleeping difficult at first. Food is classic washoku, and depending on your love of fish, may be a good or bad thing. (I thought it was all delicious!) The onsen was clean and very relaxing. All in all, a good winter trip spent.
Nanto
The service was top notch. This hotel is in a small town in central north region of Japan. Perfect for those who wants to explore the more rural side of Japan. Dinner and breakfast are provided and are of high quality. The staff set up our beds while we had dinner. The rooms clean though bugs may get in from the windows. The view is beautiful as it the hot bath. Overall, a really nice place to stay at but rather expensive.
