It was a great place to stay when I was looking last minute while on a bike tour. I was pleasantly surprised with how roomy the place is regardless of what you book - you essentially have a place to yourself. Downstairs you have couches, the toilet, mini fridge and wash basin, upstairs the bed with the kotatsu and warming matt. I slept well. The hosts were wonderful. There is no bath or shower but there is an onsen at a korean bbq place not far from the place. The toilet that another reviewer mentioned does smell but it's because it's a different type of toilet then most are used to and it really doesn't matter. I used the placed mid February so it's so still cold. I was warm under the kotatsu and futon so it didn't bother me. There is a heating unit on the 1st floor.

Incredible staff who took care of every detail. The location is gorgeous and very close to Mt. Aso and several other natural attractions—perfect for nature lovers. We booked the private onsen several times and really enjoyed it. The breakfast and dinner had a variety of choices we enjoyed. The hotel even let us use purchase our yukata. Great experience!!!

Kuju Kogen cottage is an onsen resort in the middle of the Kuju mountain range. On the day of check-in, the staff was very kind in allowing us to change the room to a Japanese style tatami room (they had initially given us a western style room). Booking a private hot spring bath room for me and my girlfriend was easy too (50 minutes, with an additional charge). Access to public male and female onsen rooms is included in the room charge. I loved the dinner selection, both the Yakiniku and the Japanese style option. While speaking a little japanese makes things easier, the staff can handle English speaking visitors fairly well. The views from the resort are simply stunning and I feel lucky to have been there.

This place truly felt like a dream, with a tranquil river, waterfall, luscious greenery and the faint hum of animals and nature. Our stay in the air conditioned treehouse was exceptional, with futons that, while firmer, offered a uniquely comfortable rest. The seclusion of the spot made it feel like a private slice of paradise. The river and waterfall were so serene that I could spend hours simply relaxing on their sun loungers by the edge. There is also a cafe across the river that is run by a wife and husband duo that is only accessible by walking or driving on a path through a scenic rice paddy. It had sushi, pizza, noodles and more that was delicious and worth trying! The lodge also offers a range of riverside activites such as saunas, bike riding, a fire-pit for evening relaxation, and water rafting. The rafting and the peaceful moments floating in the river were core memories from my stay and a must try!

The hotel feels very homely with good facilities and several rooms to relax. The beds are super comfortable and the breakfast was tasty!
