Odawara castle very nice. But many displays inside the castle were in Japanese so we couldn't really learn a lot. Otherwise the architecture is fabulous. Loved the beach ; we went right after a typhoon, very windy, huge waves, beautiful. The food is very nice everywhere you go. So many different types. We went into a small local restaurant and had ramen. They could,'t speak English but we just pointed out other clients' dishes to tell what we want to eat.
The castle is definitely worth a visit, be it only the garden grounds (during sakura season, it’s really beautiful!) It’s a good place to stay for visiting Hakone (a little outside of things, but more affordable and on the Shinkansen line, so convenient to arrive/leave there).
We arrived on a very wet day and had planned this as a lay over, rather than deal with the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Wish we could have spent more time. So close to the JR line which just opens up options. But exploring the fishing port, the castle and the wider region would have been great. The accomodation was excellent for a family.
The ambience and scenery of the city during day and night was very nice and beautiful. The city looked completely different at night. Odawara castle was a sight to behold. The trees have already begun blossoming Sakura leaves, it emitted a radiance of peacefulness and everlasting tranquility. The Odawara castle park was filled with people who brought their lunch for picnic. Food prices in comparison to the bigger cities such as Tokyo and Kyoto are a bit more expensive.
The location was a bit hard to find but that's on my fault cos I didn't check the address correctly. We stayed there just for a stopover before we moved on to Hakone. The rooms are traditional, spacious and quiet as well. It's not a fancy place but you'd definitely get an old vibe from old days. We love the ambiance and the price is reasonable as well. I don't really understand why there are a few negative feedback considering you are only paying a small amount and it's a decent little place. Would stay there again.
Short train ride to Hakone which was beautiful. The Hakone round course is a must do! Everything was easily available at Odawara, from the multitude of eateries, onsens, cafes, izakayas(bars), karaoke, shopping, antique shops, souvenir shops. None of the shops would even dream of overcharging tourists! Must try experience is the public baths (onsen).
