It is my birth town. This city is quite big as well as Osaka city but it is more residence city so there are not much tourist points. The new UNESCO spot imperial tomb (Nintoku Tennoryo) is there, but it is forbidden to enter and you can just see from the outside, just forest. So it is quite boring. The museum of Anfonse Mucha was interesting to visit if you like the art. And being a residence city, it is hard to find hotels but recently the private accommodation is increasing so you could find much more options than hotels.
Sakai is a lovely, busy town. I wasn't able to explore much of it yet, but from my short time there, I think it's not a place for first time travelers. Few signs are in English, so you really need to have at least some basic Japanese to properly ask for help and directions. But it's lovely nonetheless. I definitely want to come back and explore some more. I really recommend the Spa Hotel Sakaihama Rakuten Onsen Shofuku. That one place alone is worth a visit.
The room was big and clean. The hotel is right next to the train station, so it's a perfect starting point for visiting Osaka and nearby cities.
