Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Iruka Hotel is set right in front of the ocean in Shiretoko, a world heritage site. Free private parking is available on site. The sound of the waves from the room and spectacular sunsets were fabulous! It was also a nice walk from the hotel to the restaurants in town (and the famous ramen shop is less about 5 min walk away). The staff were immensely friendly and there is a very sweet dog on site who follows the staff around and who you can pet if you ask! :) Thank you for the lovely time!

Hotel Kifu Hotel Shiretoko is a 10-minute drive from Shiretoko National Park, which is assigned as a UNESCO World Heritage. Checking out of this hotel was a sad experience. I stayed for one night only and it was superb. Amazing location and view of the sea, amazing food, and an out of this world private open air hot spring, in a snowy wooden cabin. Staff was extremely nice and helpful, I needed help with a few things and they really went above and beyond. Even included a free ride from the bus station. I want to return here every year.
We came to Shari during the early February winter to see the drift ice. We took the Shiretoko airport liner to Abashiri for the boat tour to see drift ice, didnt manage to see it because of the strong wind. After that we sit the same aiport liner straight to our hotel at Kiki. It was a winter wonderland here, you could see a lot of snow. The next day. we signed up for 3 local tours operated by Shinra, and they do not disappoint. In the morning we went for a walk in the snowy forest, and it fell really enchanting and beautiful. In the afternoon, we walked on Drift Ice, it was a really unique experiences. In the evening, we went around to see the seagull and eagle, and the sunset, it was beautiful. At night we have our dinner buffet and onsen at Kiki hotel, it was really enjoyable relaxing. We went back to the airport the next day morning. It was a really memorable trip for me.
This area is where Shiretoko National Park is and definitely worthy of a visit when in Hokkaido. Seafood is abundant so a Kaiseki dinner will include various dishes featuring their local catches including unique fishes, plates of delectable sashimi, and my favorite crab miso soup. The views in autumn are spectacular with colorful foliage and breathtaking ocean vistas. We were happy to see brown bears, eagles, fox, deer, various birds including the elegant Tancho, Japanese red crested crane. This trip exceeded our expectations and was most memorable!
It's one of those edges of civilization with a very special own little ecosystem. Shiretoko national park is a real primeval forest and has a high density of wildlife, including multiple species of majestic birds of prey, as well as brown bears. The landscape is just phenomenal. There are multiple hikes (not for the faint of heart though), but also sightseeing boat trips, and guided tours.
Shiretoko this place is very much depends on the weather. Unfortunately typhoon approaching when I was there, 4 days all boat tour cancelled and some trekking trail closed. Fortunately the fresh seafood and onsen with sunset view is awesome.
Utoro could do more to make more sights available. The town itself could need some cleanup. The National Park is great, but has limited sights to offer. Not sure why not more trails are maintained. The area could also benefit from more English language information and guides.
The staff in the restaurant was nice and helpfull.- great chef at the grill! The food had a good quality, the raclette cheese was great. Nevertheless, the menu did not change for 1 week, and the focus was only on meat & fish. We missed the (local) vegetables and farmer products. The location of the hotel makes it easy to get to the shiretoko natural park hiking routes and sea trips. The sunset over the fishing harbor is nice.

It was a very comfortable resort hotel with a great view and excellent facilities. The room was huge, with plenty of space for sleeping and relaxing. Breakfast and dinner buffets were good, with a wide variety of choices.
Well English speaking, clean, quite, cheap and basic but we'll equipped, just what a traveler needs. Nice view from breakfast room. Perhaps check out a bit early at 10 AM. Was happy to stay there.
