Location was excellent. Shared kitchen, microwave, kettle etc so you can self-cater with food from supermarket (next door). Very comfortable rooms with Japanese style bedding - new build so everything clean and modern. Hostess is lovely and communicates through a language translation app.

The monk who runs the property was so helpful recommending local restaurants and giving advice and even gave us a lift to the station. There were free drinks including alcohol. The rooms are part of a temple. The hotel is very close to the main shrine and not far from the station so a great location. The place to stay in Shingu. Good value for money.

Fantastic Stay – Convenient, Clean & Thoughtful! I had a wonderful experience at this guest house and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area! 1️⃣ Great Location: The place is super convenient—just a short walk from the station and close to major attractions. There’s even a Lawson convenience store nearby, making it easy to grab snacks or essentials. 2️⃣ Spotlessly Clean: The room and shared spaces were immaculate, which made my stay very comfortable. It’s clear that the host takes hygiene seriously! 3️⃣ Thoughtful Amenities: I was impressed by how well-stocked the place was—they provided everything from body lotion and makeup remover to deodorizing spray. These little touches made my stay so much more comfortable. 4️⃣ Smooth Unmanned Check-In: The self-check-in system was seamless and hassle-free. I arrived late at night, but the process was quick and easy—no stress at all! Overall, this guest house offers great value with its prime location, cleanliness, and attention to detail. Everything was wonderful. The place was spotlessly clean, homely, spacious, and extremely comfortable. Was pleasantly surprised by the ammentities provided as well. The check-in process was delightfully smooth without issue. Would definitely recommend this place to others and would book again if I plan on returning to Shingu.

Shingu is a small coastal town with few hills which is a wonderful to find after 10 days hiking on the mountainous Kumano Kodo pilgrimage walks. One of the 3 Great Shrines is here and very accessible whether walking or driving. Getting to and from Shingu is very easy with the train station and bus station being together in the center of town. It is a good base for reaching the other 2 Great Shrines of the Kumano Kodo at Hongu and Nachisan. There are a number of good eateries in the town but one of the joys was just wandering down laneways and discovering little gems not listed in the usual guides.
