The property was surrounded by nature along with the house interior being a Japanese interior with tatami mats and sliding doors, it really feels like a home away from home. You get the feeling like you have stepped back in time as the area is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Also the owner was very hospitable, taking me and my partner to buy groceries because we didn’t have a car. It was definitely above and beyond type of service!

I’ve been living in Japan for 3 years and stayed in many ryokans. Sakamotoya was by far the most memorable stay. Of course being a Muji House makes everything look beautiful but Sakamoto-san himself is the star here. From the moment he picked us up at the station, the attention to all our needs, the delicious breakfast and dinner cooked by his mom.
