Elmenteita (Near Gilgil)
Located in Elmenteita in the Nakuru County region, Cactus Eco Camp and Lodge provides accommodations with free private parking. Some units include a patio and/or a balcony with lake or garden views. When I travel I appreciate mostly those places where I feel at home and where I feel welcomed. More than great pools or super fancy environment I value the friendliness of the hosts and the good vibes. So it is more about connecting people to places and in Cactus Lucy really made me feel part of the place. We spend time together walking along the lake, exploring the nearby area (she loves to walk and she can show you around) or just chilling on the veranda. She did her best to accomodate my meal preferences and she is a great cook. On top of this the room was very big and comfy with good mosquito net, reading lights, plenty of furniture to place all my stuff. I booked for one day, just for a stop by, I stayed 3. Lake Elementaita is a great place, far from the noise and the crowds of Naivasha or Nakuru. Is a great place to relax and spot flamingoes, and has got an interesting story concerning the first british settlers whose old houses are scattered all around. Very close there's the famous Lord Delamere's Soysambu conservancy, private reserve also possible to visit, where I spotted the endagered Rotschild giraffe. Walking distance the obelisk and tomb of Lord Galbraith Cole, overlooking the lake. Prices are moderate and silence and relax are guaranteed. I really miss my days there.

Gilgil area has plenty of nice lodges in near perfect settings away from Gilgil town itself. Pelican lodge is located in a place where it is away from the hustle and bustle of Nakuru town so you get to enjoy a peaceful stay. If you like lakes and bird watching, Lake Elementaita, one of the Great Rift Valley Soda Lakes, is just next to the property and it teams with hundreds of beautiful happy birds of all sizes and colours, from the small beautiful starling to the large pelicans and the greater and lesser flamingos. And it is a short distance from Lake Nakuru national Park where you can enjoy a game drive for more birds, impalas, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and warthogs. If you are lucky yo can see the cats: lions and leopards. Lake Nakuru has wonderful viewing sites atop the small hills all around the lake where you can relax foe endless hours enjoying the view below with occasional birds flying past your eyes.
Very friendly and helpful staff; Monica, Jane, Judith and Boaz were wonderful. The food was very good and the rooms very clean. We enjoyed hiking the hill behind the hotel with Boaz as our guide. The views from up there were breathtaking.
The rooms were very tastefully done and the bed super comfortable. The place picturesque and serene.Food was good. The rooms are too close to the next so privacy is a little hard. all in all real value for money!
A visit to the lake is a must. The road is a bit tricky but even little cars can handle it if it hasn't rained recently. We accessed the lake by entering at the jacaranda hotel sign and following the road all the way down. Very worth the effort especially close to sunset.
Beds were comfortable, clean & cosy & serene ambiente! View of the lake & flamingos was breath taking 😊 No mosquitos 😊
