There are some good restaurants and beach clubs but you do get haggled a lot on the beach which is not so relaxing. Beaches are not as clean as in Watamu but its still worth a visit and there is good value for money accommodation in Malindi and some historical places to see. Great place to eat is at Driftwood beach club.
Despite not numerous places to visit, there are nice hotels 4 and 5 star n good food along Casaurina Road. Having a car is a better option so that you can move around quite easily. Game drive at Arabuko Sokoke forest will definitely require a 4WD. Watamu is near. Make sure to taste Osteria Ice cream n visit snake Park.
It is a small town with clean beaches and Tuktuks as the main transport provider. The Tuktuk drivers can smell a foreigner from far and some crooked ones double/triple the usual cost of 100 shillings per ride depending on their assessment of the client. Residents are friendly. There is a vegetable market that opens quite early and has fresh vegetables. Bread is mainly bought at the bakery... Supermarkets close so early. Coming from Nairobi where we have 24/7 access to some stores, it was a shock to discover that they close at 6pm. I guess it is part of being a holiday destination 😊Their prices are also costlier and variety limited. Fresh fish readily available. Swahili restaurants sell fresh food at a song 😍. It is a beautiful place to visit. Will visit again.
Little Italy in Africa! Makes for some great food, wine, gelato and design. Might be a challenge if you don’t speak Italian though. Highly recommend Juliet at Mani’s salon/spa for an excellent pedicure.
Malindi is interesting and full of fascinating things to see and do. The people are friendly and curious to meet and talk to visitors. I felt welcomed. The food at the seafood cafe next to the Baobaob Tree is outstanding! Take a tuk tuk tour to get your bearings. Swim in the Indian Ocean!
Malindi offers excellent Italian and seafood restaurants. The beaches are white sand and it has a quieter feel than Mombasa or Diani. I visited Osteria (Italian) and Driftwood Beach Club (British) and both were great restaurants. I wanted to attend La Rosada but they are usually only open for lunches and not dinner. My hotel was wonderful but not on the beach and I didn't venture walking to the beach on my own. Tuk Tuk is the main mode of transport and very inexpensive.
The place is in a serene environment n suitable for holiday even with kids. The house was good value for money. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Its gated n secure n they can avail all services from transport to cooks n house help. He went overboard by supplying more than the usually supplied necessities. He was v warm n friendly n checked to see we were comfortable. There is also plenty of entertainment with beach parties and activities. I would recommend it very highly.

The owner was an amaizing host. Always quick to help and a great person to converse with. My room was spotless clean and the staff great company. The hotel is a few meters from malindi town and close to all social enemities. I would recommend this hotel to anyone out there. I have had horrid hotel experiences in Malindi. But Le Chateau gave me my best experience in Malindi.

Aaaah Villa Mela! I could write a song about the place - Gianni. Wilma and Stephen were warm and wonderful. I definitely need to go back to the Kifaru room when I’m writing my novel. A serene location and a 5 minute walk to the beach
Great place for families or small group of people. Stonethrow away from the beach and other major beach establishment. If you want an easy and relaxed place to be in and cook your own fish sold on the beach this is your stay.

The property was beautifully furnished and the grounds were immaculate. It was a refreshing change from the production properties on the beach. Great character and charm. We will select it again on our next visit.
