If you think Nairobi is crazy, try downtown Mombasa. The city is mental and the traffic overwhelming. Lots of people trying to make a quick buck out of you wherever they can and not a lot of great restaurants or food available in Mombasa island.
There’s was some great things about Mombasa . The best was the people ! Everyone was very kind and helpful . The huge bummer for me is how dirty the beaches are.. it’s not really that the beaches are dirty but that no one seemed to bother to pick any of it up . Locals vendors and hotels / resort staff really just ignored it and after my 3rd day staying at the Reef hotel ( which was one of my more luxurious stays while I’m backpacking ) I only seen a few workers rake up the trash and seaweed and put it in a bumpster once . On my 2nd day I woke and went down to the beach around 7am and I collected maybe 12 pounds of trash by myself in a 3 hour time spand ... I mean there was allll kinda of stuff in the sand and in the water ..stuck on starfish . It was really sad . I WOULD recommend people to visit the beaches in Mombasa to help improve the trash problem because oddly enough I see lots of resurants that pride themselves for “ fresh local caught fish “ anddd after what I seen and touched .. I wouldn’t eat any of it .
There is almost never any traffic. The beaches are beautiful. People are friendly. Food is Just amazing. It's very hot but also has a breeze. In the north coast staying around nyali/bamburi is perfect. Access to the beach is easy. There's malls around incase you need shopping. Clubs in there vicinity about 5 ,I'd recommend Anuba lounge, zenix and Sheba lounge. Food you must visit Laveranda hotel, delicious Italian pizza and Yuls aquadorm. At yuls you can jet ski... Go for a boat safari. Or just walk around the beach.
Weather wasn't friendly but it's rainy season anyway but I made the best of my stay and enjoyed it. Managed to go the the the beach and lots of other great places. Friendly, courteous, polite and hospitable people
Mombasa have been my favorite town for holiday for many years. Relatively well kept town by African standards, friendly local people and good food. Nyali beach is fantastic although it get crowded on weekends and has few swim=able areas. Few historical sites/attractions to visit
Mombasa is a good city. Thieves and robbers are less compared to Nairobi. People are friendly and peaceful. The city is hot as expected, being coastal and within the tropics. Traffic police at dogs section very corrupt.

This is, by far, the best african property I’ve rented on booking.com. The host was absolutely helpful and always a phone call away. The rooms were spacious and so clean. The environment is serene yet the Nyali center is just 5 minutes walk away which can serve all your basic needs. Nyali beach is also really close. If you are traveling as a group or family, this is highly recommend and 👏👏👏for the host. Too good a human

The pool is excellent for the kids. Not too deep. Access to a small beach, didn't use it but nice view of the bay. Very friendly staff, and all generally very helpful in resolving issues. A few decent restaurants that are separate from the hotel but still easy to stroll down the pier to. Kids eat free in the onsite restaurant when accompanying paying parents for buffet.

Room was great. Location was great because your in the middle so your not too far away From the beach or town. This was more than cost effect and for the price I paid I was very happy. I had the creek view room. The view was great and the balcony was good also. Everything worked and a good size tv if that’s what you want. The pool area was clean and a very decent gym.
