The area is too crowded with traffic jams caused by matatus which are a real nuisance. They stop anywhere and everywhere in the middle of the road.
Mtwapa town is so congested with no parking spaces, it's lost the authenticity of mombasa and reminded me of ongata ringside in Nairobi. The county government needs to invest in road expansion urgently as the malindi mombasa highway is now a complete nightmare with trailers, trucks, cars, matatus, boda bods, all fighting to drive in endless traffic.😡😠😵😵
The insecurity at the public beach is at its peak so tourists be warned. I'd reccomend you visit the beach through any good hotel, if you're not a guest. We had no problems visiting Serena Beach hotel and Mombasa Continental.
We had lunch at Mooring floating restaurant where there were shows which was nice. However, thought it was a bit too pricy and not really worth it, especially the food whose quantity per serving was a bit too stingy and the ice cream to small😖.
We were stunned at the Water World slides with the fees as well, 1500 shillings per child even below 5 years!!!!I thought it was meant for the general public but it's unaffordable for many families.
Pride Inn hotel was also charging 3000 shillings for their water slides😱😱
Overall, being the first time to Mtwapa most of the spots to visit were generally ok. Apart from the unjustified over pricing in local venues and the ridiculous traffic and road congestion, I can rate it 5.5/10.
