The hotel was lovely. I could see the Caspian Sea from my window and watched a gorgeous sunset over the sea. My room was quiet and private, and as a solo female traveler, I felt very safe. I was able to check in early and I was very grateful for that. The location was perfect; there was a lovely path along the sea only a five-minute walk away. I wasn't able to take advantage of the free breakfast. However, the cafe overlooked the sea and there were tables outside on the patio. It looked very pleasant. The Wifi was great, a fully stocked fridge with drinks and snacks, and the comfy bathrobe was a plus!

    The rocky pathway and walking next to the beach was...

    The rocky pathway and walking next to the beach was fantastic. There are many monuments to visit and explore, some inside parks. Unfortunately the Museum was not open on Saturday, 23/02/2024. This was very disappointing since that was one of the reasons I travelled out there. I was also surprised that it was closed since the day before was a national holiday and in most countries people usually make a touring weekend out of national holidays. I also was not the only person who arrived at the museum to find it closed. I would not recommend going to the kinoplex mall unless you're going with people who want to ice skate or buy souvenirs at the entrance of the mall. Only one of the shops I visited did not try to overcharge me for my purchase. Other than that I would also highly recommend going on a 'safari' to the 'alien landscape' called Byzherek (not sure I spelled that correctly). The tour group was a massive amount of fun and the tour guide tried his best to explain the history to me in English. I also met many fantastic local people who were on the tour. The tour company is "mangystau_safari" on Instagram and you can message them on whatsapp. They reply in English.

    Aktau is located in western Kazakhstan on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. It has gorgeous beaches and is a popular vacation destination in the country. People can enjoy water sports, including windsurfing, kayaking, and jet skiing, while relaxing on the sandy beaches next to warm waters. he beach season starts at the end of May and lasts through September. In the center of the city, the coast is steep and rocky. It is a favorite location for cliff-jumping enthusiasts.

    Aktau is a beautiful city, however because there are so many tourists, the service is extremely poor, from the high-end hotels to high-end restaurants. You will wait, and wait and wait. We often waited two hours for basic food. We waited a long time to check in. Very few people speak English. The service is really poor.

    You definitely need to get out and about in Aktau.

    You definitely need to get out and about in Aktau. There are so many beautiful and strange places to visit. The valley of the balls, bozhira, the bay etc.... As An astrophotographer, I've never seen clear night skies quite like it. Best views of the milky way I've ever seen (and i live on a mountain!). Swimming on the beach was lovely, calm and warm without issues. Random camels walking around just complete the experience. We did a few days overlanding and then a few days at the Rixos for some well deserved all-inclusive luxury. Didn't spend much time in "town" we weren't there for that.

    Our favorite place in the vicinity of Dostar Hostel are the umbrellas on the ebachfront. The only restaurant that time was CHESTER, just inside the vicinity of Dostar Hostel, we ate there 3 times, the food was good but a little expensive. If you have a taxi app yes it is easy to get around Aktau and if you also know a bit of their language.

    It’s in a good location, minutes on foot ( to the right of the fancy hotel opposite) from a beautiful bathing area where people gather daily for a cold dip! Came across a fabulous collection of interesting souls here! The hostel itself is scrupulously clean and all facilities are great. Plenty of fridge space and cooking utensils. Air con in the dormitory is effective and welcome. Free parking beside hostel. Supermarket and ATM a few yards away. Warm and very kind owner!
