I can't imagine that anybody would travel to Uralsk just for fun. It's a relatively small and dirty city, not easily reachable. The best way from Moscow or Europe is to fly to Samara, and then take a taxi, which would drive you for 5 hours and 280 km, crossing the Russo-Kazakh board. There are some nice businesses in the city, though, and also a pretty good University. And yes, it's a historical place, where the most famous Russian poet, Pushkin, lived for awhile :-)
URALSK is an old beautiful city with a mix of Soviet and modern architecture. To party Aitrum bar and Eldavino is happening and safe. I personally prefer Aitrum due to it's filtered posh and sensible crowd. In summer fishing and swimming in the river is fun. Days are hot, up to 38 deg. Winter is usually very harsh and cold here. But beautiful in its own sense. Lot of karaoke clubs, so if singing is your thing. Don't miss URALSK. During summer terrace restraunt in galactica is very good too. It is usually closed during winters

This is a very low cost hotel so I didn't have high expectations and wasn't disappointed as a result. The location is fine, the staff were friendly and, despite being very dated, essentially there was nothing wrong with it. I had to stay here as I booked my trip at the last minute and all the other hotels were full. I don't mind staying in old hotels, but I do mind staying in dirty rooms. No matter how old a hotel is, you can always clean it to an OK standard, and this wasn't the case at this hotel.

Chagala is most likely the best place to stay in Uralsk if you have a bit more money to spend, the apartments are clean and well furnished. Additionally the restaurant and bar is ideal if you don't fancy going out or cooking for yourselves, there is something for everyones tastes; sometimes the service staff can be little confused but ask a manager and they always are polite and correct any issues.
