The room was fabulous! It's hard to find a nice bungalow with ac and hot water right on the river, but river view resort has just that! All the other bungalows we saw on the river were very basic but this one was great. It was clean, has hot water, great view, and ac. The breakfast was yummy also and the restaurant makes good food. The staff were all very friendly. We wanted to extend our stay but they were all booked out. Highly recommended!

amazing choice of places to eat and drink with affordable options and good fresh food. Easy to get around with bikes rentable for 10,000kip per day, everywhere has bikes for rent. Beachbar great place for kids with inflatables on the river
It was a big hassle coming to the island, but the kayaking activity that I did was worth all the sufferings. Would recommend this place if there's more options for transportation and if the government install lights on the roads.
The island has fantastic views of the Mekong river with many small islands all around Don Det. The coast of the island is full of hotels, guest houses and restaurants, while the interior has lots of rice fields. It was very nice to walk around the island, total distance about 6 km, in the early morning. The island is lively with a large number of restaurants to chose from. The old French concrete gantry and historic bridge as well as an out of place steam engine give a feel of the French colonial past. The ferry ride from Nakasong on the mainland to Don Det is very interesting.
Don Det was so beautiful. Relaxing in the day and party in the night if you want. It has everything. So much different food to choose from and if you rent a bicycle for 10.000kip you can cycle around the whole island and even over to Don Khon to explore there too. We did a full day kayaking tour which included breakfast and lunch and we got to swim, see irrawaddy dolphins and see the biggest waterfall in South East Asia all for 19000kip.
Having the freedom of going everywhere with the bike is great, you can visit the places you want at your own pace. There are a lot of different tours and activities you can do, from tubing (which is just floating in the river and going with the flow) to more adventurus ones and party bosts if that is your style. For us it was the perfect place to swim and rest and just chill for some days. Love don det.
it was ok...nothing special......the locals were the least welcoming I met in Laos.....probably sick of backpackers..! I did a full day kayaking trip which was hard core......more like an endurance test.....I wouldn;t go back to Don Det....as the T-shirt sez,"been there Don Det"
