It has an interesting history, but to be honest there is not a lot to do or see in the city other than the derelict costal forts, post war rebuild is mostly industrial/commercial so there is very little "old town" left, I went off-season so most tourist sights were closed. I suspect in tourist season my view of the town would improve. There is a lot of potential in the north part with military history and a lot of grand buildings that have been left to ruin or ruined by soviet style concrete blocks. Needs sympathetic rejuvenation. Worth a visit but not a prolonged stay.

Liepaja is a "hidden gem" of Latvia!
Liepaja is a "hidden gem" of Latvia! It has a wonderful, relaxed vibe. Food everywhere was delicious and fresh. The people seemed much friendlier than Riga. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and a perfect spot to spend a few days. There are also plenty of nature excursions to do in the area.

Liepaja has grown on me during my 2-day stay.
Liepaja has grown on me during my 2-day stay. It is a charming small city with lots of houses that have historical characters and special architecture. The beach is beautiful, clean, and very long shoreline.
Nice and modern 2 room flat, located few hundred meters from the Seaside park, the stadium, Pūt Vējiņi concert place and the beach. We especially liked children playground, good restaurants (Parka paviljons and Strike Pizza to name few) and seaside for long walks. Liepāja open air market for local fruits and vegetables as well as cafeterias in city centre are 10 min walk away. Galerija "Romas dārzs" is worth visit for various exhibitions including excellent 100+ years old doll exhibition.
Fantastic vintage interior. Owners had put great attention to all details, that were all soo different, yet complemented each other and made the overall ambiance great and the aura of the apartments felt bohemian - that suits Liepaja very well. It is not your boring standard hotel with the same beds and no imagination interior you see everywhere! Really loved the antique and vintage style, we could feel the history by our side. Really great touch with all the authentic historic details.
Great stay in Liepāja in modern and ''arty'' hotel. The most positively surprising fact was the many paintings in the hotel and rooms. The room was large and comfortable, everything was clean and staff was nice. The only thing that could be changed is to put in the room various size/ type of pillows as the current ones we did not found comfy, but that is very minor thing.
