Having some things organised in advance.

Having some things organised in advance. I do not enjoy haggling or not knowing prices so that stopped my from buying lovely items at the souk. Cut out on some of the stress by having your activities booked in advance. We ate at the night market one evening. Delicious food. The juices from the juice vendors are amazing. Took a hot air balloon trip. Did not get to Baccha Coffee which means we definitely have to come back!!!!

The city is dynamic in every sense - fast, noisy, impossibly exotic and suspenseful - full of technicolour and drama. It is the opposite of boring and if you love impulsive, endless shopping, beguiling architecture, gorgeously decorated restaurants and lots of the New, the Immediate and the Exciting… well, Marrakesh will deliver. It is, however, a dangerous city to navigate as the mopeds, motorbikes and all other forms of transport appear to be coming at you from every angle. It’s stressful and I felt really very jumpy walking along the street, especially in the Medina. The Moroccan tourist sector is working hard to provide excellent facilities and experiences for tourists in Marrakesh and THEY are succeeding to a point. People are generally warm and standards, high. Yet sexism is rife and omnipresent and a major deterrent to ‘repeat tourist business’. The souks are frankly scary for female tourists, I would not walk them alone. Most male (and not all I should add, younger men are much more polite and mannerly)) stall owners were rude, suffocating and bordering on crazy. Another thing I should mention is that we were not - as three women - served wine in a licenced restaurant even though it was on the menu, we’d ordered it and the waiter had taken the order. This is blatantly sexist and degrading, female tourists should be treated with respect. It is a shame as it did blight our holiday…the feeling that we were seen as lesser beings by a sector of society.

Having had city breaks in Europe- our trip to Marrakech was our first trip into a different culture. Our break was very much based within the Medina as our Riad was located centrally. Nothing prepared us for the mayhem of the Souks- it was an assault on the senses! The view of the snow capped Atlas Mountains together with the roof top views were amazing. The experience of hearing the call to prayer made the hairs stand up on my neck. The traffic was..... barking mad. Rubbish piled on some street corners; though the Souks were very tidy. Everything is within walkable distance- the gardens are the highlights. The Majorelle and Secret Garden stand out. We also had a personal guide on the first afternoon we were there- it was the best thing we did- it really helped us to find our feet and orientate ourselves- we also got some of the history/ culture of the place. We went in February, the weather was 20-25 perfect for us. All of the trees were full of oranges. The people are very friendly and happy to help. Like anywhere, there's the odd person out to rip you off. Nothing has a price on it- everything is a negotiation- as a stuck up Englishman I struggle with that; it's a little off putting at first. But, I got into it and guess what? I enjoyed it (well enjoyed is possibly a slight exaggeration) and had a good time and the locals seemed to appreciate the effort. Do it for the experience; whether you enjoy Marrakech or not depends on the type of person you are. Honestly, I'm still making up my mind- but I'm very very glad I've been.

Marrakesh is soooo worth visiting.

Marrakesh is soooo worth visiting. There is lots of things to see in Marrakesh itself but there are also many possibilities to take trips in the surroundings. The view on the Atlas mountains, with snow (february) is breathtaking. People are very friendly and helpfull and it is relatively cheap. Need to haggle prices if you want to buy something. We found it to be very safe as well. Food is delicious, so much choise. Take a trip to Zagora (2 days) and/or to the Ouzoud waterfalls. Landscape in Morocco is gorgeous and excursions are not expensive. I think Majorelle gardens are ok. The 2 musea there are more worth a visit so definately recommend buying the combined ticket. The Marrakech museum next to the Koran School Ben Youssef Madrassa is not to be missed. It is in a beautiful building. 1112 Teahouse is worth a visit as well. Lovely garden and nice decoration.

Be prepared for something very different when visiting here.

Be prepared for something very different when visiting here. Very dirty, busy, chaotic place with everyone trying to sell you something but are prepared to haggle to achieve a good price! The Airport is modern a taxi will generally take you to the edge of the Medina and then you either get a tuk tuk type taxi or walk if staying in the Medina. Lot's of fake designer goods on sale everywhere as well as traditional Moroccan gifts, Adidas Trainers for GBP 10. So many restaurants, cafe's and take aways you are spolit for choice but be aware that there is almost no alcohol served inside the Medina. Riad's a plenty to suit every budget and style so make sure you check all the details before you book anything. Be prepared to be shocked by what you see with raw meat being cut as you walk down the alley ways, cats everywhere and litter on every turn but you kind of accept this and almost respect that this is how Moroccans in this city live so you just accept it and take another photo! Trips to some of the most popular attractions are very reasonable and worth doing,m we went on a Quad Bike, Camel Ride and Dinner under the Stars trip about 1 hour out of the town with the Dolomites in the background covered in snow, this was excellent value and definitely worth doing!

It was a lovely place to be! The beds were comfy, it was clean and smelled lovely everywhere, the food was the best we tasted in marrakech, the staff were discreet but attentive (more so than many 5 star hotels I’ve stayed at.) the pool was beautiful at the end of a busy afternoon in the souks. We were always greeted with an ice cold drink or a mint tea.

it was clean, a lot of options and it is truly a resort in itself. The food options were great and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. I would advise when getting a taxi walk towards the main gate on the outside (it’s cheaper) rather than getting picked up inside the hotel. The all inclusive options were great

Location and staff are both great. Our air con didn't work but the staff did sort it out. Came as a surprise not to have windows or patio especially as it is supposedly 5 star hotel but then it is in centre of the old town so having no windows meant it was quiet.

This might have been a 5 star hotel 23 years ago but not now. The pools were good, the rooms were okay, the toaster actually worked in the mornings but only did 6 slices. The wine and beer were good quality. That is about it.
