Marrakesh gets a 10/10!

Marrakesh gets a 10/10! The food, culture, people and weather was great. Our first time here, a group of girls, and we all loved it. Best falafel to eat at Falafel brunch and terrace! We walked almost everywhere. The Agafay dessert activity is a must.

To find a city in this day and age that hasn't become a uni-culture globalised city is probably quite rare and the atmosphere of old Marrakech is a real treat. It risks being ruined by traffic fumes, and the amount of small motorcycles that plough through the souk and make medina wandering not at all relaxing (never mind the hawking from vendors!) Do AVOID anyone promising to show you the tanneries and '100 Berber women coming to market from the Sahara' - this is an attempt to get you into a leather shop and some high pressure and quite unpleasant selling

Warm and friendly people.

Warm and friendly people. The souks (markets) are engaging, full of smells from spices and colorful. The food is outstanding with lots of flavor from natural spices but not hot spicy. Go outside the city to the Oukira Valley and the Atlas Mountains and enjoy the scenery. We felt very safe there. Day tours are very easy to arrange. We stayed at a Riad and one hotel in Marrakesh. We enjoyed the Riad experience much better than the hotel—much more personable. We went to the Music Museum and enjoyed a meal at their terrace restaurant—enjoyed both very much.

It's a unique place that you go to for the medina square (...

It's a unique place that you go to for the medina square (Djemma el Fna) and souk. Can get very crowded and a bit claustrophobic in places. If you need a quick beer the hotel Tazi is the only place in the centre but plenty of restaurants. Gueliz and the area around the train station are the most cosmopolitan areas. No.5 bus goes from there to the medina for 4 dirhams but its packed standing room only. Taxi a lot more, say 50 dirham. I would go for three or four nights maximum then get coach to Agaidir or Essouairia for a seaside rest.

Marrakesh was absolutely amazing, we have loved every minute of it, I took my parents and my children (8,15) and everyone had an amazing time. I expected the street sellers and some harassment but this is another level. On another hand the friendliness and generosity from most people in Marrakesh really took me by surprise, we absolutely loved it! Favourite places was Bahia Palace and Medrasa Ben Youssef. Make sure you go to the main square after 5pm for the liveliest food market ever. We only took a taxi once, we used the buses 11 and 12 to get to and from airport, really easy to use and much cheaper than a taxi, only 4dirhams.per person. I would come back here in the blink of an eye and spend longer as there's so much to see and live here.
