Interesting for a few days You can walk everywhere if you stay centrally . You do not need a guide although it would have enhanced our trip to hear how life is at present in Tiraspol . The problem is that the local guides are charging 100 euros per person for a day excursion which is very expensive considering the cost of accommodation and salaries on the ground . Even through we had our own transport the price was the same ! Bender fortress worth a visit and drive around the countryside one afternoon . Food was good in restaurants although it’s bizarre that everything has to be paid in local currency with no foreign credit cards. I’d say visiting if in Moldova but I don’t think it’s somewhere to keep on coming back

I loved this city very much and I regret having ask an only 3 days lasting visa. It's a very peaceful and quiet city so if you like to party maybe it's not the most suitable destination for you. But if you like Soviet Union style, then it's perfect. No traffic, no chaos, much trees and nature. Be careful, there will be basically no internet connection even with a Moldovan sim card. And european cards are not working neither for retire nor for paying, so keep cash from with you from outside.

Tiraspol is an interesting unique city.

Tiraspol is an interesting unique city. The city centre feels small and quite safe. 25 October Street is the place to visit, strall along viewing the Soviet era old buildings mixed in with newer apartment blocks. Some of the pavement and square have modern, smooth vaving stones, whilst older streets, the one that take people to the Victory Square are old and cracked. The main attractions are the Soviet monuments to Alexander Suvorov, the war memorials, a statue of Pushkin, statue of Kosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, and an unusal statue of Harry Pooter, of all characters! The Christmas Church is a delightful building, lots of icons to view inside. For food, try the Back in the USSR Restaurant for budget vallue. Staff speak some English. For accommodation, several choces: Park Hotel is near the River Dniester and a 2-/30 minute walk from the centre is Like Home Hostel, small and friendly at roughly 11 Euros per night for a dorm bed in a 6 bed dorm room. The owner and staff speak English. Small bses or minibuses round around the city and are cheap, although bus drivers don't speak English. The only way in out of Tiraspol is by bus from Moldova. A bus journey from Chisinau takes about 2 hours. Foreigners have to shower their passport at a checkpoint, show an accommodation address and state their length of stay. Foreign passengers are given a piece of paper, like a receat (this is a kind of visa for Transnistria). This piece of paer is taken by a police officer or solider when leaving Transnistrian territory on departure back to Chisinau or to another destination in Moldova. This procedure is simple and I wasn't asked for any bribe. Visitors can change money at the main bus station in Tiraspol to Transnistrian Rubles that can only be used in Transnistria. I.e., in Tiraspol, Bender and Ribnita and other villages within Transnistria. They cannot be used in Moldova or any other country.

It was so otherwordly and the people were all SO kind and SO helpful. Even a guard on duty recommended somewhere i would like to visit I didn't know about and bothered to show me where on his phone. A lady in a shop randomly gave me some sweets and beamed with smiles at me. Everyone went out of their way to provide good service. It was the way it used to be in the West and no longer is. I cried when I left. Go and see for yourselves.

A truly magical place—immaculately clean, from the streets to the beautifully preserved Soviet architecture. The warmth and kindness of the people make it even more special. Public transport is efficient, with frequent buses, and taxis are honest and reliable. Overall, an incredibly pleasant and memorable destination.

This fantastic place is perfect for a weekend.

This fantastic place is perfect for a weekend. It has its own special charm, but while it is famous for being 'Soviet', I didn't really see it there. Yes, they have a statue to Lenin, but there are some other places in Moldova that have them too :) The city is walkable, though the local transport is pretty cheap: 3 roubles or 0,18 EUR. I love their parks, there was sakura blooming in their dendropark and they planted tulips there, so it was wonderful. The city center with fancy buildings and monuments is pretty picturesque. The food is as varied as you can imagine: I personally can recommend Toscana, Back in the USSR and the House of Bakery.

Elena is a very good host, she really takes care of her client, despite that we struggled sometimes due to the language barrier. She offered me a big room close to the Dniester river, with a big garden around but stil on walking distance from the most important attractions of Tiraspol. Affordable price, good room, and top host. Absolutely recommended for everybody staying in Tiraspol.
