Bacalar is a very nice place to kick back, relax and enjoy nature. But, it is also important to mention that to keep it that way we are responsible of how we decide to travel to this kind of places. And anywhere else, really. Be mindful of the flora and fauna around you, wear eco-friendly sunscreen, avoid motorboats, opt for the catamaran. Avoid buying one time use plastic things, put the trash where it belongs, if you can, walk or bike instead, do your part. If we want to preserve Bacalar, and protect it from what has happened to Tulum or Playa del Carmen, we ought to change our ways. On that note, about where to eat I would definitely recommend: Taco Loco La Playita Nixtamal Kayaking, swimming and enjoying nature at its best.
Absolutely beautiful place! I loved it. There is only one ATM machine in the city and one money exchange store. Expect to wait at least a 40min to 1 hour to exchange money. They don’t exchange all types of money but I would ask before waiting in line. Boat tours as of May 2019 should charge $250 per person. It’s a must tour! Gorgeous. A must place to go eat breakfast, the Manati. Great fresh food and they have a shop where local items are done! Very cute things so bring cash or they’ll take visa or MasterCard. Place to eat lunch or dinner La Playita which is located on the Lagoon. Can’t wait to go back.
The Bacalar lake is absolutely beautiful. Give yourself lots of time on the lake: swimming, swinging, boat rides, kayaking, supping, etc. I would recommend staying on the road along the lake as most things are walkable from there. The terrace at the back of the Yak hostel is a great place to sit with a drink and enjoy the view. There are boat rides with Gaia boats leaving from the dock there several times a day. At Cocolito you can lay on the grass and sunbathe and swing on hammocks in the water. It's 35 pesos per person entry and a car ride to get there. (But free parking). Food was a bit underwhelming in Bacalar. Most of the highly rated places were average.
Bacalar is great! The laguna is beautiful and ridiculously relaxing. Learning about local birdlife and cenotes is fascinating. The town is unpretentious (unlike Tulum) and reasonably priced (unlike Tulum). But it suffers from the Mexican propensity to restrict beachside access to those who can pay for hotels or the entrance fee to the foreshore park. So one does feel a little removed from the locals, who (like Tulum, Cancun, Playa del Carmen) are having public access to their beaches gradually removed in the interests of growing the tourist sector in Mexico. Highly recommend a visit to Bacalar - it really is stunning.

Came for 2 nights and ended up staying for over a week. The location is excellent, 2 blocks from the lagoon. Very quiet and peaceful. The main square is a few blocks away. Delmar is an excellent host, runs a great place, extremely helpful, speaks English, and is enjoyable to hang out with. Then there is the breakfast!!! EXCELLENT!!! We have searched Mexico for years trying to find a place just like this on the water and peaceful. We finally found it here!!! Thanks! Will recommend to friends!

It’s only 5 min walk to the plaza. And 3 min walk to the Lagoon. The best location ever. It also closed to my favorite restaurants: La Piña, Playita and El Manatí Bacalar. The boutique hotel has a swimming pool that you could chill out. The bed is very comfortable. The owner Aurora and her staff are super friendly. They will try their best to answer all your questions. There is a street parking lot just at front of hotel which is very convenient. Highly recommend!

Room is brand new. Bed is very comfy and the shower is great! The best we've had in Mexico so far! The host/owner lives on site and is very welcoming and helpful. Room is kept cool using special insulation and air circulation system. No Aircon needed, which is better for the environment! No bright lights on the property which allows you to enjoy the stars while relaxing in the comfy chairs on the porch.

Small room, and WC in our room had no toilet seat as if it was a public place! Never seen this before in two months travelling all over Mexico, a private room that cost so much money doesn’t have a WC seat! Check the pictures carefully, you’ll notice this small detail that may ruin your stay. We used a restaurant bathroom close-by.

Aside from the issues mentioned above, it was a great stay and we would come back again. The lakefront location is absolutely spectacular with a beautiful view of Lake Bacalar from our room. There is also a swimming pool and access to the lake, where you can swim, snorkel, or rent kayaks right there.
