We liked everything about this hotel! The location was perfect, on a quiet street, but very close to the main hustle and bustle of Punta. We rented a scooter from the place down the street for three days and were able to visit all of the various areas of Puerto Escondido, including all of the different beaches. The architecture and layout of the hotel, including the design and decor, were very well thought out and high-quality. The pool was amazing, especially after a hot day at the beach. We loved the viewing deck, as well as the fitness facilities. The staff were super friendly and the the food coming out of the small kitchen was fresh and unique… Felt like your own personal chef! Thank you to philip and everyone at Casa de Olas. We will definitely be back.

Overrated, overpriced, and not maintained places. The surrounding of Purto Escondito are gorgeous but if you come for the city, you’ll be disappointed like me. I was looking forward to a cute beach town, eating sea food and enjoying the ocean. Well first of all, you won’t be able to swim because the waves are massive. Plan a budget of 15-20 USD for a breakfast fried eggs + bacon plate and donc expect any within walking distance things. Every thing is spread out and you’ll need to use a taxi or rent a transport. After travelling 1 month is Mexico, I was super disappointed by this place. It’s more expensive than Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Oaxaca, Tulum, and even Merida. I came with the intention to stay a week, and ended up staying one day.

I spent a couple of weeks in Spanish immersion at the Instituto de Languages on Zicatela beach. Great crashing waves and lots to do there. I needed a couple of nights of transition before flying home, so I booked two nights at a hotel near Carizalillo beach, one that is swimmable. Overall, Puerto seems to me to be your classic beach town. And there's a part of town, Punta Zicatela, that's even more so. Old beach guys giving surfing lessons, shops and restaurants, and lots of young travelers from all over, wearing as little clothing as possible. And the sunrises and sunsets! Wow.

Mexican beach town attached to a regular city.
Mexican beach town attached to a regular city. Lot of tourists so overpriced unless you're rich or American. Mainly Mexican food but European prices. Nice beach but not for swimming as all surfing waves. Taxis will scam you like most tourist areas. Hot and humid when I visited in July August, but I'm sure it's nice in the dry season, but probably even more expensive. The cheap hotels thinks thry are in Cancun with prices twice what they should be.

A sweet, unpolished beach town.
A sweet, unpolished beach town. There are no huge multinational hotels on the beach, just low-rise local hotels and apartments. The strip along the beach feels relaxed, calm and slightly down-at-heel. It's easy to explore on foot. As two solo women travellers, we felt safe throughout our stay, though we didn't leave the tourist area. The beach itself is huge and very long, with incredible surf waves. There is a small beach area at the north end where it's possible to swim, but the waves are still quite big, especially for children. There are lifeguards all along the beach. There are nice restaurants right on the beachfront, all serving the same simple food. We only stayed two nights - I think at least four nights are needed to really relax and get used to the pace of life here. There are also several excursions nearby which would have been fun if we'd had more time!

A huge long beach, Zicatela is a lovely place but will change very soon with all the development and construction going on.
Already lots of bars, restaurants, shops and hotels, but still relatively chilled at the moment.
Beware of what you carry, police search anyone they can on the beach to extort money!!

Even if a relatively small town the neighbourhoods are very different; Centro where the hotel is, more local people, Bacocho (a bit more hipster was my impression), Zicatela the touristic part with a lovely beach and Brisas de Zicatela where its mostly backpackers and surfers (its just off Punta Zicatela where the best waves are)

The room was really clean and comfortable, the backyard is a nice place to relax. The hotel is well located, 10 minutes walk to the beaches and close to Centro.
Magnolia, the owner of the hotel, is very helpful and accommodating.
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again next time when we visit puerto escondido.
The location is amazing, super safe and quiet area. The breakfast was great, the beach club is amazing, private and super beautifully done. We loved our stay in this hotel. The hotel runs a shuttle from the hotel to the beach hotel, but it’s also very close by walking. Really amazing place to stay in Puerto Escondido.
Great location - right next to lots of different restaurants, bars, brunch places etc. (Would also recommend the restaurant that is located in the hotel). Also, the swimming pool area is really nice.
Comfortable beds, and airconditioning in the room (highly recommended due to the humid conditions in Puerto Escondido)
I had the pleasure of staying at Mi Puerto during my very short trip to Mexico and it was such a great choice! The hostel has just opened and everything is brand new and very clean. The aircon was definitely a plus!!! Staff was great and they made my trip much better :) will definitely be back!!
Excellent location, beautiful view, rooftop (despite the neighbouring hotel, I still think this is the best rooftop in Puerto Escondido), pool and service
