Tulum is a lovely town with beautiful beaches, friendly people and great food. The only thing to be aware of is the massive amount of seaweed on the beaches. Apparently, it's a problem that's gotten worse over the years, so if you're big into beach swimming it might not be the place for you. If you just want the view, peaceful vibe and excellent view - highly recommend!
Nice but too expensive, crazy expensive for Mexico. Be prepared to spend too much money on basic things. Shops are so expensive it’s better to shop at Prada or Channel for that price. Too noisy if you stay next to restaurants, almost all of them have the misic extra loud.
We enjoyed Tulum, for its variety of "scenes" and activities for a family, spanning grandparents and small kids. We stayed in town, went to the beach one day, got a day-pass at a resort another day, did a tour of the biosphere, and went to cenotes for 2 afternoons. We rented a car, which made getting around easy. All in all, a good vacation.
There’s police everywhere, closing off the beaches at 5pm, and all the restaurants on the beach close at 6pm. You can’t get to any of the sights without having to pay an enormous amount of money to get in! On top of that it’s difficult to get around as everything is ery scattered around.
Absolutely loved the energy of Tulum. It is focused on wellness, bohemian luxury, spirituality, nature, and electronic music - a perfect combination in my opinion. The most unique experiences and hotels are located here, really embracing holistic health and being in tune with nature. I definitely recommend going to Azulik for the sunset (most unique and impressive architecture I've ever seen), and going to Ilios (Greek restaurant) for dinner. Cabs are quite expensive in Tulum, so I recommend staying in a central location and walking, or biking.
There are three parts to Tulum, the main town which feels like a truck stop on a highway, the party town where young people parade their sculpted bodies, and the private beach clubs/hotels. Steer clear of the truck stop, but choose which of the other two matches your stage of life! The ruins are interesting but nothing like as impressive as others in the Peninsular. The beaches are mostly covered in seaweed, if it's a beach you are after make sure you stay in a place that cleans it away daily - it's amazing how much comes in each night.
Before this trip, whenever I was often dreaming of a Mexican Caribbean getaway, however, I couldn't even picture the magical world of Ikal Tulum Hotel. Where to start from? The stylishl Robinson Crusoe's huts, the easygoing vibes throughout, the delicious food offered at the restaurant, the genuinely kind and professional front desk team and the manager, the Yoga and healing session offerings, or the pristine beach with a view to the Tulum archeological site's temples? We're hooked for good! Planning already our return.
Excellent remodeled hotel in the heart of Tulum. Nicely styled rooms and very comfortable beds. Superb for the price point. The common area kitchen was great for a quick meal or just gathering to socialize. I was able to meet other travelers as well as the owner in this space. Huge plus. Only a 5 minute walk from the main ADO bus station in Tulum. Very safe property. A big plus was the keyless entry into the rooms! Many hotels in Mexico give you a key with chain larger than your phone.. it is awful to deal with.
Nice spacious and clean rooms which are a decent price compared to many of the luxury hotels in Tulum (although the “beach view” rooms do not really have a view of the beach) Delicious food in the restaurant which is a very good price compared to most restaurants nearby. Excellent service from all the staff, particularly Jasmin in the restaurant who always had a smile on her face. And Alejandra and David in reception were always happy to help out with whatever you need. Ideal location right on the beach
This is a hidden gem in Tulum Playa Hotel Zone. A distance from the main strip of the hotel zone, it is close enough for beach visit and great bars like BeTulum or Dos Ciebas, bike ride away from all food, or just out front at LOCO restaurant. I felt like family here, and I will be visiting not only Tulum when I come back, but my new Casa Coyote and Loco familia. Thank you Dante, Patricia, Vicki, Ivan, Emanuel, and the entire staff. I have never felt so welcomed ! 15/10.
- Beach was more clean than in the other parts of Tulum, smaller and private (only shared with some hotels) - Staff was always friendly and helpful - Breakfast is okey - Also food and drinks are good, but a bit pricy (as Tulum beach mostly is) - Room provides all you need and is clean - Location: perfect when you are fine with bikes, bus or Taxi for City center Please dont expext high luxury - this is a bit simpler but very lovely place providing all you need.
This was a lovely little hotel - the staff were brilliant, Victor was so helpful. The rooms were immaculate and they offered a great range of services; laundry, room cleaning, yoga, gym etc. It was amazing value, we think because there was some building work going on around the area but you couldn’t hear it at all. It was a bit of a walk from Tulum central but we got bikes on a couple of days which was a great way to see Tulum. I would highly recommend.
Loved our stay at Bardo… I feel like we are well travelled and have stayed a some of the finest hotels around the world, and Hotel Bardo is one of our favorite boutique hotels. The whole atmosphere is calming and relaxing and is a paradise within the city. Their entire team was awesome and attentive, and the complimentary yoga (instructors are paid only by your tips) was fantastic - 2 of the best yoga sessions we’ve ever experienced.
This is a perfect, peaceful getaway in Tulum! A small boutique hotel (only 13 rooms) with amazing facilities. The beds are super comfortable, shower is perfect, beach beds are everything you need, breakfast (and all other food) delicious and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Location is also perfect! Almost everything on walking distance, and otherwise you can use their bikes for free. Don’t skip a facial/massage!!
Very nice private beach, and because the hotel is a bit further from the beach clubs and hotel zone in Tulum, it was not affected by the Sargasso that spread on every beach in Tulum’s main touristic area. So that was a nice compensation for the horrible dirt road. The hotel crew is very nice and service in the common area is outstanding. The restaurant is also very pleasant and offers great food and snacks.
We had a great stay at Naajal Boutique Hotel. Secluded place in the middle of the jungle with two lovely rooftop pools, perfect place to see the Tulum sunset. Room was clean and tidy. Special thanks to Charly for the great service P.S. since location is a bit from the main road and center, car/scooter/bicycle is required for daily transportation. Rental can be arranged by hotel staff at request
Very beautiful hotel - a lot of plants and vines form the courtyard, creating an oasis-like feeling. Modern rooms, very good bathroom facilities, especially for Mexico. Tasty breakfast with plenty of fruit. Location is good if you have a car - much better to stay in Tulum proper rather than the beachfront hotel area which has a horrible road leading up to it. Walking distance to downtown bars.
Los Arrecifes is everything and more! I traveled to Tulum for my birthday and Gabriel, Marta, and the staff members made sure that our stay was extra special! The breakfast was delicious and organic, the ocean views were rejuvenating and relaxing, and the area was walking distance to everything! This botique hotel is one of the best in Tulum! We can't wait for our next trip!
Staff was very friendly, professional, and available. Bike rentals were cheap and convenient. It was very easy to walk or bike from the hotel to downtown Tulum and the Tulum ruins and beaches. Our private room had a comfortable bed and clean, modern bathroom. Hotel also provided drinking water and communal fridge. Best margarita on our trip was made for us at the hotel bar!
Tulum City Centre, Tulum
easy contactless check-in with clear instructions communicated beforehand - liked the decoration of my cozy room and the vibes of the place as such with a small pool in the patio - hotel is located in a quiet residential zone, but only a short walk / bike ride away from the hustle and bustle of Tulum downtown
Tulum City Centre, Tulum
The staff in particular. Very attentive. The rooftop pool is very clean. Lovely area to relax on the rooftop. Friendly atmosphere. Great location. Within walking distance of the town centre and decent restaurants. I will be returning here should I visit Tulum in future. An absolute hidden gem of a boutique hotel.
Hotel was directly on the beach and our bungalow was steps away from the water. It was right next to the restaurant but felt quiet due to partitions. It was right in the center of Tulum beach zone but very quiet and peaceful, but being in center made it easy to get around. Perfect getaway!
Mereva is a little piece of heaven. The property is well maintained and the staff are phenomenal. It is close enough to downtown, just a taxi away, and far enough away from the large all inclusive hotels that you really get a quiet and comfortable experience. Yay for Mereva Tulum.
Room was lovely! fresh, clean, bright, lots of space! air con worked so well and we had a nice balcony also. The hotel has a great friendly feel and reception super helpful! we hired some bikes to get to Tulum beach and that was easy at 200 peso per day.
Beautiful boutique hotel with a good location, close to restaurants and bars. The hosts were amazing. With the help of Rafael’s fantastic recommendations (restaurants, beaches, activities), our trip to Tulum exceeded expectations. Thanks for everything!
