FAQs about hotels in Tulum

About Tulum

Tulum, a town in Mexico, is a tropical paradise that boasts an average temperature of 78°F. Known for its stunning beaches and clear, turquoise waters, Tulum's climate is warm year-round, making it a perfect destination for sun-seekers.

Among Tulum's many attractions are the ancient Mayan ruins perched on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. You can explore these historical sites on foot or rent a bicycle for a more leisurely tour. The town also offers a variety of water activities, including snorkeling and diving in the nearby cenotes, natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water.

Immerse yourself in the rich culture of Tulum by sampling the local cuisine. Try cochinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork dish marinated in citrus juices and annatto seeds, or panuchos, tortillas stuffed with refried beans and topped with turkey or chicken. Beyond the town, the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve offers a glimpse into the region's diverse ecosystem, where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the untouched beauty of nature.

very touristy and expensive. it's the destination for influencers. it's wannabe boho vibes but hey charge 5x the acceptable for food, entrances in spots, drinks, and even the touristy sites. The wood statue every influencer posts on instagram is paid just to see. the beach access is also paid (isn't the access to the sea suposed to be free for everyone? they made the beaches private property which is insane). in gas stations they don't accept cards although the machines are there they are never available - another way to be corrupt. so it's a no no place to go, unless you wanna be stressed, feel robbed, or you really want those instagram pics.

I was at a beach club and there was a cartel Shooting.

I was at a beach club and there was a cartel Shooting. One cartel member killed and a random woman from Los Angeles was killed by a stray bullet. I was 15 ft from the shooter. The night before I was stopped at a random checkpoint for the police. I was robbed of all my cash, about $350. I was threatened and told I would go to jail if I didn’t not allow the police to Rob me. Same night on my ride home I was pulled over by the same 2 police. I had no cash left. They threatened to take me to jail if I didn’t pay them now 3000 pesos. They pulled me over conveniently in front of an atm. Threaten jail and tried to handcuff me until I agreed to go to atm to get them cash. Be careful, the Cartel runs that town and owns the police. Beside that it was a great stay. Beautiful beaches and the locals are very nice, Chichen Itza was cool. Very expensive in the beach affordable if you stay in town.

Tulum was nice but extremely expensive, it's literally a massive long road and no centre or heart so we were just walking up and down the road in the evenings which became tiresome. Tulum downtown is a taxi ride away but the taxis in Tulum are extortionate but the vibe downtown was very cool. It was lovely, but I feel that 5 nights in enough there. I'm glad that we went but the high prices were very off-putting, and I wouldn't go back. If I'd have known how expensive it was I probably would have chosen differently. The cenotes are amazing!

Good location if you dont want to stay in Cancun (which is not my personal favourite, as its mainly huge resorts on a busy highway with a lagoon in the middle), but want a place with plenty of amenities. You have the archeological ruins on the beach allowing you to squeeze in culture with sunbathing. The waves were quite active, so that may suit you depending on your preference! Stay in the town for cheaper accommodation and food especially if you need variety because you are vegan. Special shout out to Succulenta - absolutely delicious. Be aware, especially if you have kids is that there are busy roads though. If you want quieter, more relaxed, very small island vibe; I suggest Isla Holbox. The town is small with no cars, beach was beautiful and the water is calm. Lots of different bars/restaurants at the beach, which you dont get if you go to the beach with the ruins (the beach closest to Tulum town). There is a holboxshuttle.com from the airport directly to Chiquela Ferry Port (book direct, not through third party e.g via Viator).

tulum is a beautiful town, its a town that it has not completely been influenced by tourist but you can tell its on the way to become another Cancun but for the most part you find mostly locals who are very very kind mix with a lot of tourist, I liked this part a lot. the only bad thing id have to say about this place is that the food was not very good and that the restaurants lack of many items of the menu. although the tacos are good its not something I personally want to eat all day so whenever I looked for something else specially at the beach club restaurants I was dissapointed

Tulum in this time when there is zamna partyes, afterlife and many else, is too expensive! Taxis try take 2000 pesos from Zamna to Tulum 7 kilometres distnce! Its crazy! Hotels scam. If you are tourist, take very big wallet with you to Tulum! And the sadness thing is, that the value of customer service, servises and else is not worth! Eeven on the beach they try take minimun order 20000 pesos for sunchair! Its unbelieveble! Never again to Tulum!

I have traveled before to TULUM a year ago. Nowadays TULUM is another different town. So much tourism and everywhere you want to go you have to pay, inluding beach access. Public beaches you have to pay in the entrance (around 45 MXD) plus if you go with a motorbike another 100MXD to park. Do not rent a car, it is impossible to drive over. The street are totally in bad conditions also super narrow. Scooter or bikes are the only option. Also hotel zone are totally crowded, avoid this areas or carry with you 1000MXD at least per person.

The property is so aesthetically pleasing. It screams ‘Tulum’. Nothing was compromised to the contrary. The beds were comfortable, the washroom was clean. It came with ample amenities and clean towels. They even provide you with refillable drinking water. The location of the property is so good as it is only walking distance (like 5 mins) to most of the eatery, bars and souvenir shops. We had a car, reaching the famous cenotes or even Tulum hotelzone (beachside) was barely 10-12 minutes. Overall, we had a lovely, warm stay.

We were travelling around Mexico for a month and this was so far THE BEST Hotel. We were charmed by it's looks at night. It's in great location close to the archeological zone and beaches, about 10-15 min. by walking and just around 3 km from center. Just across the road is a shuttle bus stop and you can also rent bikes. Staff were super friendly and helped us a lot. Especially Kevin, amazing guy, who made our stay even more special. If you are looking for an accommodation in Tulum, I highly recommend this Hostel!!!!!!!

Excellent remodeled hotel in the heart of Tulum. Nicely styled rooms and very comfortable beds. Superb for the price point. The common area kitchen was great for a quick meal or just gathering to socialize. I was able to meet other travelers as well as the owner in this space. Huge plus. Only a 5 minute walk from the main ADO bus station in Tulum. Very safe property. A big plus was the keyless entry into the rooms! Many hotels in Mexico give you a key with chain larger than your phone.. it is awful to deal with.

Location and nature amazing, I loved that we stayed inside the archeological zone, ha! We saw a huge piton. I like how easy to get to everything and how beautiful the beach is, you can rent a bike or walk to ruins and enjoy the nature. Downtown Tulum is about 20 min, it’s just slow ride and parking is about 200 pesos. Regardless of the road maintenance and that you have to make a huge circle through the park to get back to the hotel, it was great. I felt safe.

Beautiful hotel in a nice area of Tulum a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and the hotel zone. We were greeted with a welcome drink (non-alcoholic) which was very thoughtful and delicious. Rooms are nicely decorated, beds comfortable, and nice showers. Breakfast included is a nice addition. Staff was super friendly. Infinity pool was nice however unfortunately didn’t get to spend much time there (see below).

This Resort is located right on a beautiful beach. It’s about 10 minutes away by car from Tulum Center, but have in mind Taxi ride will be pricy. Staff was amazing, rooms comfortable, the Resort itself is very nice. Just have in mind if you are looking to go out every night you would have to go to center of Tulum or Zona Hotelera because there is nothing around the Resort. It’s very quiet and peaceful area with AMAZING beach !

This is the best location that you can get for this price in Tulum beach zone. In my opinion the south end of the hotel zone is the most beautiful! we enjoyed going to dos ceibas beach club that is across the street and walking distance to many restaurants and please go to the rooftop for the sunset. Mariano was very helpful and if you want any tips what to do in Tulum he is your guy.

The building and room were absolutely beautiful! The best place we stayed at during our mini Mexico trip and I'll book it again! Receptionists were so nice and helpful. The shower and plunge pool in room made it feel like a luxury stay. Do yourself a favour and walk/drive about 2 blocks to "the best tacos in Tulum". There's a guy with a taco stand and they're so cheap and good!
