I spent a few nights at the YX Oasis Hotel, and it was such a great place to stay after going down the Kinabatangan river. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable (and I'm picky about beds), the wifi worked great, the check-in was flawless, the price was great, the aircon was fantastic, and everything just worked out well. The location is near several restaurants and shops, which is convenient.

Parking was available on the street and the area is very walkable with plenty of restaurants, stores, even laundromats, although not from a tourist standpoint. There are no tourist attractions in walking distance but there's easy access to and from the highways if you're driving.

Great location next to Sandakan heritage trail, easy to walk to the Harbor mall area and central market. The room had spacious windows with nice sea and city views. Very comfortable mattress. Working AC and shower, free water refills on all floors. On the 2nd floor there's a kettle and cooler with hot water as well. The hotel staff was kind enough to allow later checkout free of charge.

The usual scruffy SE Asian town but it had some good eating places, a good shopping mall, 24 hour laundries and a pleasant waterfront. The Agnes Keith house was excellent as was the Sandakan Memorial Park and other WW2 historical sites. A poignant reminder of a terrible history. The English teahouse with afternoon tea is well worth a visit

We went only for the orangutans and they have become extinct. Sustainable populations of orangutans must have at least 250 individuals. Each makes 2 nests a day so it is obvious when they are in the area as one can see hundreds or thousands of big, brown nests. I saw only 1 nest in Kinabatangan and 2 in Tabin. There must be from the very last surviving rehabilitated orangutans.

Home of the orang utangs all species of tropical flora and fauna. Ever green environment being in the Tropics. Renowned visitors were Judy Dench, Jason Scott Lee championing the plights of the the orang Utangs and sun bears. Slow pace and small town and easy to drive around. Many seafood restaurants with fresh Cheap food at Taman IJM, and one at Buli Sim Sim. All visitors including Hong Kong TV celebrities came for the local seafood. Locals have breakfasts at the local markets. I opted out the hotel breakfast and have the local springing noodles, ramen equivalent, at the market Labuk Rd mile 1.5 roundabout.

It's a beautiful and comfortable place with lots of activities for nature lovers. It was perfect for working remotely and exploring. The facilities in the city are great; you can find good restaurants to eat at and have good connectivity. And can always escape to some natural reserve or beach to be in touch with nature.

Value for money. We stayed in the higher than basic rooms for a bit extra. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel is older style but the rooms and facilities are spacious, clean and comfortable. Quiet, good location and short walk to city centre. Quality nearby restaurants including the hotel restaurant. Our experience is that the hotel deserves a higher overall rating

Location was right in the centre of Sandakan. It was a good base for our rainforest tours. The area is very local with not much tourists around but we had a decent time. The hotel is basic but you get what you pay for. A/C was good, free water top ups at reception, bed was comfy.

The hotel meets most of my expectations. The bathroom amenities can be improved. I was hoping for a firmer pillow, but it is alright. The location is smack in the centre of old Sandakan and the view of the sea from the room was breathtaking.

Great, central location. Spacious room, on-site gym and huge buffet breakfast. The hotel is inspired by films so there’s loads of fun art dotted around the place.
