Providing garden views, Sukau Backpackers B&B in Sukau provides accommodations, a bar and a garden. There's a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. Loved the setting the guys taking us out on the boat (John and Yan) were fantastic and very knowledgeable about the area. They made every effort to see all the wild life and I wasn't disappointed 🥰 monkeys orangutans birds crocodile and we even saw an elephant! Well done guys you made it special 👍💜
Located in Sukau in the Sabah region, Sukau Greenview Bed & Breakfast has accommodations with free private parking. Guests at the bed and breakfast can enjoy an Asian breakfast. Directly on the river, rooms are basic but what you would expect. Would recommend going for the package, we didn’t and paid separately for each cruise. It did although give us the opportunity to find alternatives for dinner at a place further along the river.
Set atop a 328 foot hill overlooking the Kinabatangan Forest Reserve, The Last Frontier Boutique Resort is located in Bilit, and is located a 2 hour drive from the beautiful Sandakan. If you want to experience the Kinabatangan and want to get the best experience stop looking and book here. Jason and his team are one of the best hosts I encountered in over 20 years travelling the world. They made our stay an unforgetable experience and are extremely knowledgable. Food is fantastic as well. The only thing we can say is: Jason keep going delivering the best host experience and all continue protecting our planet so that also your great grandchildren can see the Urang Uthan at Kinabatangan.
Located in Sandakan, Kinabatangan Wildlife Lodge has free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a restaurant and a bar. Some units are air-conditioned and include a seating and/or dining area. We loved our stay here. Even though we were set slightly back from the river, this was almost a bonus, as there were fewer mosquitos and we had a nice view from the restaurant/reception area. The food in the evening was delicious and the fact it was a set menu meant we tried new dishes, and we loved that the food was made my some of the locals - a really nice touch. The river tours were great fun, as was the hike up the hill, and our room and the reception area were both really comfortable for when we just wanted to relax. The room was really spacious and the air con was excellent. But what made our stay so special was the staff. They made us feel at home and were so helpful and friendly - we spent a good few hours chatting to them, which was so lovely.
Sandakan Backpackers Hostel is located in Sandakan and provides air-conditioned accommodations with free WiFi, as well as access to a terrace. Guests can also relax in the shared lounge area. Roof top space with space to relax and enjoy the view. Located right by a string of restaurants along the waterfront to get local dishes. Private room has aircon. Staff are friendly
Alonto Hotel has air-conditioned accommodations in Sandakan. Among the facilities at this property are a 24-hour front desk and an ATM, along with free WiFi throughout the property. I like the place and the staff so friendly and easy to negotiate....
It was incredible. We did the morning and eveninv cruise with Masz (they have their own boat). We saw almost everything! Saw an Orangutan and Masz got a tip off about an elephant but it left just before we arrived but we could still hear it moving through the forest, saw loads of every type of monkey and even a large croc on the bank. Loads of birds like Kingfishers and Hornbills. The restaurant is incredible too, and so cheap! Masz even drove the whole hostel to the local market on Friday evening in her truck. Can’t recommend this place enough. Thanks Masz for such a memorable stay.
Nice place for observation of wild nature during river cruise. But you must be patient. We didnt see a huge amount of animals close to us but it was really nice to observe orangutans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills and other endargered species in wild nature. It is fine to have binoculars for river cruise. We didnt have it and we would really appreciate it. Night river cruise was also very interesting. We really admired eagle eyes of our guide who could see birds, snakes, little crocodiles and showed us them from very near distance if it was possible.
