Gîte du Cap is located 22 mi north of Bourail and offers barbecue facilities and a private covered terrace with a view on the lagoon. Peaceful location with a view to the ocean. Nearby hilltop provided a fine panorama and was a good place to view a sunset. The room had a pleasant ambience.
Positioned on 20 acres of tropical forest, Betikure Parc Lodge is located in Bourail. The accommodation is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Betikure. It was a great base for me to be able to work, as well as to explore the west coast of New Caledonia. The wifi worked well, which was a pleasant surprise.
Boasting an beautiful beachfront location, Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Spa & Golf Resort offers an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center. everything from the golf carts to the accommodation, the friendly staff, the food and amenities were outstanding
Facing the beachfront in Bourail, Auberge de Poé features a shared lounge and a garden. Featuring a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a terrace. - Very nice staff - Very efficient kitchen equipment - Close to the beach - Nice garden - Except wifi in the room perfect for everything
Nice to stay at the Sheraton, nice walks around the area and through the unique countryside and flora of New Caledonia. Unique cycad forest walk is easy and worth doing. Diving exceptional and untouched, just uncomfortable on an inflatable RIB for 5 hours.
Overflowing river meant we couldn't reach our accommodation on the first night but the tourist office were helpful in finding an alternative. The next few days were sunny and we enjoyed snorkelling off Poe beach and Le Ils Verts. Parc Bekiture was a great place to stay.
Great area to visit, in any weather conditions you will find something to do. You can choose from surf beach, lagoon swimming to swimming at the huge pool at Sheraton Hotel. We did a few walks and you get a good view of the azure blue shades of the ocean if you walk up on a mountain. The signposting was much better than in other parts of the country. We believe that the closeness to the Sheraton Hotel had resulted in some upgrading of tourist facilities. The baker in Bourail got wonderful food. Other food is available. The museum is worthwhile a visit and has a good range from cultural items to a Guillotine imported from France. In summary we would visit this area again possibly when it is warmer then in August.
From the Sheraton Resort Bourail is difficult to access without a vehicle. The Sheraton provides almost zero information about the availability of buses (cost, terminals, times, etc). Neither did it have information on museums, restaurants, etc. In fact, the communications infrastructure of the Sheraton left a lot to be desired, especially considering its charges. Instead of exploring Bourail, we took a car and explored across to the east coast (a mining area), and the UNESCO wildlife heritage park (which we knew about). There was zero information about it at the Sheraton). Signage in New Caledonia is limited. Researching the roads, distances, etc, prior to the trip proved to be genius. Roads are narrow, winding and corners (mostly unsigned), require careful negotiation. Lookouts are limited, so opportunities need to be taken rather than waited for. Watch for deep culverts alongside roads when parking.
We were expecting it to have more to offer than it did, very small village no local handcrafts etc. When buying supplies be aware you cannot buy drinks to take back to your resort, very restricted times and communication with supermarket staff difficult.
Walking along the beach, with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach is lovely. Swimming is great because the water is crystal clear. We stayed in on the night of our stay and treated ourselves to home delivered, wood fired pizza from the local pizza bar, very nice!
