Casa del Bosque farm offers bed and breakfast accommodations on Maderas volcano. Rooms come with private verandas, hammocks, reading chairs and tables. This place is amazing! Juan is a fantastic host. The food...oh my! The house is a work of art. The farm is beautiful. The dog Geronimo is a sweetheart. Wished I could have stayed longer!
Selvista Guest houses is a barefoot luxury collection of jungle guest houses on the slopes of the Maderas Volcano on Ometepe island, 19 mi from the port town of Moyogalpa. Megan was an amazing host to us. She was a wealth of knowledge about the property and surrounding areas which really added to our trip. The guesthouses are stunning and rustic, you really get to feel like an authentic Nicaraguan and get off the beaten path. This is definitely for people looking to relax, learn, and get away from the tourist traps. I had an amazing stay and would come back again in a heartbeat.
Boasting a permaculture farm and exotic edible fruit forest, La Bambouseraie, is set in Balgue, within 9.9 mi of Maderas Volcano. A balcony with garden views is offered in each unit. Our one-night stay at La Bambouseraie was an incredible and relaxing refuge from the go-go-go pace of traveling. My wife and I loved the aesthetic and comfort of Casa Malinche, our private cabana. After hiking the San Ramon waterfall and becoming rightfully exhausted...one enthusiastic local staff named Carlos offered to organize a delivery pizza so that we didn't have to go anywhere. Quite surprising when that pizza arrived right at our door! (up in the foothills of Volcan Maderas) So we were able to watch the sun go down over the other big volcano from our 2nd story balcony with pizza and chilled wine. :) In the morning we decided to have breakfast at Bambooseraie and that ending up being a wonderful way to start the day: coffee from the island, fresh fruits from around the property, and some egg-and-salsa recipe that I will forever seek to recreate... Megan, the property manager, showed us all around their permaculture farm and developing food forest. She is quite knowledgeable about the many, many projects which they have going on. I was inspired to perhaps garden a bit more when I get back home (though the climate is a little different in Minnesota :P). Thanks again to Megan, Carlos and all the other people (and plants) who made our stay fabulous! I hope to come back to Ometepe again soon and stay with you all for a longer period of time.
Ananda Guest house is an off-grid guest house located in Balgue. The property runs on solar energy and extends over 5 acres, with a back up generator for overcast periods. Remote place with very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful view to the lake and volcano Conception, especially for sunset. Tip: Rent a motorbike to be flexible and independent of the local busses.
Featuring a garden and terrace, Hostal El Guis Ometepe is located in Balgue, 10 miles from Maderas Volcano. This hostel is like staying with a local family. Odelba is very thoughtful and caring and takes great pride in her business. She strives to keep the hostel very clean and makes you feel very welcome. Location is great as it is within walking distance to town and the lake. She makes a great breakfast and caters to what you need, almost like having a personal chef! She organizes rentals/excursions and has them pick up/drop off at the hostel. I would stay again and again.
Located in Balgue, 10 miles from Maderas Volcano, La Urraca Loca Hostel features a garden and terrace. A tour desk can provide information on the area. Let’s start by saying I’ve NEVER given a hostel a ten before! We LOVED this little piece of paradise. We stayed in the private room upstairs. The big net protected us so we could let the wind sweep through both windows at night. The hammocks were great for easy relaxing, the shower (which is outdoors) had great pressure and was the perfect addition to this little place. Walk a few meters to the street and find a little fruit stand with honest prices. Denis and his girlfriend are running, and building an amazing property.
Located in Rivas in the Rivas region, Apartamento Yami features a garden. Guests can enjoy the free WiFi. The apartment consists of 1 bathroom and a living room.
Located on the beachfront in Ometepe, Hospedaje Así Es Mi Tierra has a garden. Featuring a tour desk, this property also provides guests with a terrace. Family owned. Bed was comfy. Mosquito nets included. Free filtered water. Good restaurants nearby. Fresh hearty Nicaraguan breakfast for $3. Scooter rentals and other tours can be arranged through them. Good value for money.
Providing a garden, La Via Verde Organic Farm/B&B has accommodations in Santa Cruz. Free WiFi is offered. Some units feature a balcony and/or patio. There were so many great places to choose from in Ometepe, that I found myself in 'analysis paralysis'. Fortunately, I chose probably the best hotel / B&B experience I've ever had. Everything about La Via Verde was a true five star experience. The hosts were so accommodating that I felt like I belonged there. The breakfast was a top 5 breakfast I've ever had in my life, potentially even top 3. The rooms were extremely clean and modern, with a private balcony. The view was drop-dead gorgeous -- you can sit out and watch the wild changes in weather over Volcan Conception. I'd highly highly recommend this place!
Camping Lodge is located in Santa Cruz. Guests can also relax in the garden. Altagracia is 7 miles from the luxury tent.
Ometepe is quite larger than what we anticipated. There’s so much to see and to experience. I highly recommend hiring Manuel as your tour guide driver. After we talked to Manuel and he understood what we wanted to experience, it was easy to allow Manuel to guide us through Ometepe where he was born and raised, at that Manuel has never left the island
Balgue is a tiny village where it feels like life has been going on much the same for a long time. It is friendly and relaxed. We spent a lot of time at Cafe Campestre which is a great place to hang out - the banana and chocolate crepes are to die for. There is plenty to do close by, like climbing the volcano or visiting local farms and villages, but you need to be a bit resourceful. If you speak a little Spanish it will help a lot.

El zopilote is a awesome hostel, finca and commune to the same time. The energy, the nature and the people there gave me the feeling to be at home. To live directly in the jungle makes the connection to the nature stronger and to breath on the mirador with the amazing few of both vulcanos. I fall in love with this place and always be hapy to come back and stay longer.
