Casa del Bosque farm offers bed and breakfast accommodations on Maderas volcano. Rooms come with private verandas, hammocks, reading chairs and tables. Simply perfect! Off the beaten track on a remote tidy self sustained tropical garden with a nice, spacious room. The breakfast was the best in Nicaragua so far and Ben (the owner) really adds to the experience (he came to pick us up once close-by, arranged tours and transportation for us). Our room (double-bed with lake view) had a huge private terrace with hammocks.Absolutely a must if you are adventurous and want a jungle experience but still enjoy a fusion of modern and comfortable experience.
Selvista Guest houses is a barefoot luxury collection of jungle guest houses on the slopes of the Maderas Volcano on Ometepe island, 19 mi from the port town of Moyogalpa. We absolutely loved our stay here for five nights! Everyone, especially Megan, helped make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Not only was it perfect as far as being secluded and slow-paced, but we got the opportunity to learn a bit more about permaculture. Can't wait to come back next time we're on Ometepe!
Boasting a permaculture farm and exotic edible fruit forest, La Bambouseraie, is set in Balgue, within 9.9 mi of Maderas Volcano. A balcony with garden views is offered in each unit. One of the most unique guesthouse experiences we’ve had! The cabana is beautiful and surrounded by lush jungle and an organic farm. Megan and the team were so hospitable and fun to chat with. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone!
Ananda Guest house is an off-grid guest house located in Balgue. The property runs on solar energy and extends over 5 acres, with a back up generator for overcast periods.
Featuring a garden and terrace, Hostal El Guis Ometepe is located in Balgue, 10 miles from Maderas Volcano. Adelba was the most incredible host! So friendly and funny and her breakfasts were delicious. A truly authentic experience. The hostel is really conveniently located in Balgue, couldn't be closer if you're looking to hike Maderas. They also offer a great guide for the hike- Antonio was lovely and great fun.
Located in Balgue, 10 miles from Maderas Volcano, La Urraca Loca Hostel features a garden and terrace. A tour desk can provide information on the area. Let’s start by saying I’ve NEVER given a hostel a ten before! We LOVED this little piece of paradise. We stayed in the private room upstairs. The big net protected us so we could let the wind sweep through both windows at night. The hammocks were great for easy relaxing, the shower (which is outdoors) had great pressure and was the perfect addition to this little place. Walk a few meters to the street and find a little fruit stand with honest prices. Denis and his girlfriend are running, and building an amazing property.

Located on the beachfront in Ometepe, Hospedaje Así Es Mi Tierra has a garden. Featuring a tour desk, this property also provides guests with a terrace. Family owned. Bed was comfy. Mosquito nets included. Free filtered water. Good restaurants nearby. Fresh hearty Nicaraguan breakfast for $3. Scooter rentals and other tours can be arranged through them. Good value for money.
Providing a garden, La Via Verde Organic Farm/B&B has accommodations in Santa Cruz. Free WiFi is offered. Some units feature a balcony and/or patio. Breakfast was delicious- homemade bread, yogurt, granola, jams, and fresh eggs! Place is cozy, clean, cute, and comfortable. Hospitality is spectacular!
Offering a terrace and views of the mountain, Finca del Sol Eco Lodge an Eco lodge on an organic farm is set in Santa Cruz in the Ometepe Region. Free WiFi is available. A very special place run by an amazing group of folks - attentive, welcoming, great food & advice
Ometepe is quite larger than what we anticipated. There’s so much to see and to experience. I highly recommend hiring Manuel as your tour guide driver. After we talked to Manuel and he understood what we wanted to experience, it was easy to allow Manuel to guide us through Ometepe where he was born and raised, at that Manuel has never left the island
Balgue is a tiny village where it feels like life has been going on much the same for a long time. It is friendly and relaxed. We spent a lot of time at Cafe Campestre which is a great place to hang out - the banana and chocolate crepes are to die for. There is plenty to do close by, like climbing the volcano or visiting local farms and villages, but you need to be a bit resourceful. If you speak a little Spanish it will help a lot.
