Facing the beachfront, Hotel Mancarron-Solentiname offers 3-star accommodations in Isla Mancarron and has a garden, bar and private beach area. Everything. The food was delicious and the trips to the reserve and other islands were wonderful. Visited artists on isla vendera and really enjoyed the experience. If you like nature and art this is a must to visit. The owner and staff are wonderful!
With lake views, Hotel Cabanas Paraiso is located in San Carlos and has a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk, bar, garden and terrace. The friendly and helpful family and their excellent boat tour to Isla El Zapote. The efficient laundry service. The view from the terrace outside our room. Watching the Oropendula birds on their nests hanging from the large tree in front of the hotel.
Featuring free WiFi and a restaurant, Cabinas leyko offers accommodations in San Carlos, right in front of Lake Nicaragua. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar. Free private parking is available on site. Cabinas Leyko was a very nice hotel. The staff were all very friendly. There is a safe place to park your car for only $100 cords per night when you aren't staying at the hotel. (it's free if you are spending the night.) We left our car here while we traveled up the Río San Juan to Castillo and the Indio Maíz. We enjoyed the free breakfast, and the relaxing atmosphere. It's within walking distance of pretty much everything in San Carlos, the riverfront/lakefront, the marina, the local park and church, the Fortaleza, the mercado. There's plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
Located in San Carlos, Hostal Don Frank offers a casino. The property has a 24-hour front desk, dry cleaning services and currency exchange for guests. Quite limited options for accommodation in San Carlos, so Hostal Don Frank is probably best value for money in town. Jimmy the owner (Don Frank's son) very helpful and accomodating, helped look after our surfboards for 3 days while we went downriver to El Castillo. Stayed another night again on the way back. Rooms basic, clean, good WiFi, toilet has no door but you already knew that. San Carlos is not a huge town but quite a nice ambience/bar at the main square/skating rink. Good local vibes and nice place to eat (El Kaoma). Overall San Carlos made for a nice stopover location en route to/from Rio San Juan activities, and Hostal Don Frank a good-value spot to stay.
