I was only there for one night but the rickshaws are the manner of travel anywhere in town. The locals know where everything is and only cost $1.00 u.s.d. Great way to see the town. Lively and active little place. Nice weather too.
Convenient enough place to stopover on the way to Managua or the Costa Rican border. With a population of around 30,000 people and mostly one-storey buildings Rivas is a typical Nicaraguan town. The cathedral and a museum in an old hacienda are worth a visit. Around the Parque Central there are many cheap restaurants. ATMs accept most bank cards (even the European ones with a Maestro logo). Wifi works well in the city. The local Mercado and MaxiPali supermarket are places where you can stock-up, before continuing to expensive Costa Rica.
Rivas is a really a transit for getting to other parts of Nicaragua. Given that Rivas does as required. Big Pali supermarket on the main highway where we could stock up and good connections to elsewhere.
