Hotel De Doelen is uniquely situated at the Rapenburg, one of the most beautiful canals in the Netherlands. The hotel is in an ancient Patrician mansion, built in 1638. Historical old building that was well preserved and quaint. The brothers who owned it were awesome and very informative. Nice small town with the canal surrounding and the best part is very near to keukenhof route and well connected with Shiephol airport. The hotel are also cheaper and nicer You can e xplore local Leiden half a day and then visit tulip garden during 4 to 5pm and stay till sunset time and return by 854 or even later by bus no 50. A day stay in Leiden is good enough.
Beautiful city full of younger people as it is a University town. Many and various ethnicity restaurants mostly on the pricey side, but you can also find reasonable food at corner stores and donair stores. Much to see and much to do and easy to ride on the designated cycling paths. Drivers are respectful of cyclists. Many Dutch cities can claim that they are the "Venice of the North" so it is a true statement to say that there are more canals and bridges here than in Venice indeed. A short 7km bike ride west of Leiden will take you to Katwijk and a slightly longer one about 15km to Keukenhof tulip heaven which should not be missed if you are here in April. Good museums, plenty of bars and cozy little restaurants abound in this gem of a city.
Leiden is an ancient town dripping with history and many monumental buildings, definitely worth a stay. Choose this town instead of Amsterdam! The town is small enough that walking will take you anywhere in the city centre, and there are many many places worth a visit. The botanical gardens, the birthplace of Rembrandt, and lots of bars and good restaurants! Book a hotel here, and take the train to Amsterdam, for a good combination of large city and somewhat smaller town.
Leiden rivals Amsterdam for its historic center, century old houses, lining its medieval canals. It boasts 14 museums, with a great diversity of art works, dating back to the early 17th century. Visit the house where Rembrandt started his career and learned his famous techniques. Enter the place where the Pilgrim Fathers lived before setting sail to N. America. The museum of Antiquities has a rich collection of artifacts dating back to Egyptian, Etruscan, as well as Ancient Greek and Roman times. On top of that the well preserved historic city center features exclusive shopping and a host of cafés and restaurants. Leiden is home to the oldest university in the nation. Scientific mile stones can be seen at the Boerhave museum. In April-May the tulip fields are in the direct vicinity.
Great little city to visit for a couple of days. We love the botanical gardens, even in November, but I would recommend giving the Lakenhal museum a miss-it was so poorly curated-it was a waste of time for us.
Leiden city centre is beautiful and it is worth walking around. In november the weather is often very bad, cold and wet and the icy wind does not help. In this case it is better to get into a nice tearoom and have a special tea with cake. Also warm chocolate is an experience!! Not to miss the café inside the Hortus Botanicus, lovely place and good food!! Museums are very interesting; the Japanese museum is very unusual but do not miss it!!
As always our stay in the Tulip Inn Leiden was perfect. The rooms seem to have been renovated recently. They are clean and comfortable. The paid parking is very convenient--you just park your car when you get there and do everything on foot, since the Tulip Inn is walking distance from the center of Leiden, the university, and the main train station. The staff is friendly, efficient, and helpful! This is our go-to hotel when staying in Leiden and the surrounding area.
Great location - within walking distance to the train station as well as into the city center. Little supermarket nearby. Also there are some nice restaurants in the area. There is free tea and coffee as well as free fruit in the lobby. I had a room out onto the street, but it was not at all noisy. I attached the view I had from my window. The interior of the hotel is nicely decorated.
The staff at this hotel is very nice and helpful also after checkout. The hotel itself is a beautiful old building on one of the most famous streets in Leiden. Breakfast is very good and the room we had was comfortable and had a nice view on the crossing of Noordeinde and Breestraat. It was a pleasure to experience Leiden again after many years in De Doelen. Thank you very much!
The location was great. We were told that we were the first guest to ever check in to hotel Vic. We were greeted with champagne and nothing but friendliness. Would stay there again 10 out of 10 specially if you need to be close to the train station. Can’t wait to see what the hotel looks like in a few years since they said they would be done final construction in about four months.
The rooms are extremely clean! The location of this hotel is perfect for walking into Leiden for a quick drink and a meal or just to stroll through the shopping district or along the canals. The hotel provides lots of hand sanitizer and social distancing reminders in the common areas. Parking is very convenient (but costs extra).
I mainly chose this hotel because its location was convenient to a friend's house just across the canal. The rooms were basic but clean and the beds were comfortable. The free parking was convenient. The Nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch.
The hotel is very clean and conveniently located in the historical part of the city, few minutes walk from the station. The ground floor rooms are exactly at the ground floor, perfect for people with the mobility problems.
Fast check-in and check-out. Very clean room and easy access to room/hotel at any time of day. A great location when visiting Leiden center or Naturalis in our case, as well as lots of eating options nearby.
hotel is in a great location. very central and only a stones throw from the railway station.if you have limited time to see the town this an ideal spot. out the door and off you go.
The front desk staff were so nice and friendly, which is rare in the Netherlands. The breakfast was delivered to my room in the morning and it was delicious!
Good location in heart of the city close to the central train station. I liked the advices for food and drinks closeby the hotel, adds to the atmosphere.
Iris at reception was especially kind & helpful. Loved the old world atmosphere and small size of the hotel.
Rooms are big and the hotel is conveniently located.
