Boutique Hotel d'Oude Morsch, Fletcher Wellness-Hotel Leiden (former City Resort Hotel Leiden), and Boutique Hotel Steenhof Suites got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Leiden.
Leiden is a smaller version of Amsterdam, bridges, canals and close to the gardens and the North Sea. The Old Town is quaint, the city is filled with youth attending university. We have stayed four times in Leiden and love it.
Strongly recommend staying in Leiden or Haarlem rather than Amsterdam. Easier access to very good restaurants, avoid the trash, grunge, and general seediness. Better value both hotels and restaurants. Leiden to Schipol particularly easy by train. Both Leiden and Haarlem convenient for Keukenhof, and The Hague, and for day out in Amsterdam for the Rijksmuseum. Recommend “The Bishop”, “Het Printenkabinnet” in Leiden and “Petossi” in Haarlem.
Loved the close proximity to a ton of great towns, also to Lisse and Keukenhof, but without the crazy crowds. We were there over Kings Day and it was alot of fun, bands, music, food stalls, great ambiance. We did not have a bad meal the entire time we were there.
The leisure pace of Leiden was a welcome change from our very busy and too short stay in Amsterdam, where we had scheduled many activities and had to be on constant watch for whizzing bicycles, which clearly had the right of way. It was culturally rich and we enjoyed it, but welcomed the slower pace. Leiden provides comfortable and interesting walking along the canals and easy access to museums and classic architecture. Leiden bikers give pedestrians the right of way. Restaurants, both Dutch oriented and flavored by the cultures of former Dutch colonies, are easy to find. Two windmills anchor the older part of the city and provide easy landmarks for orienting our walking tours. Centraal Station, just outside the historical area, provides easily accessible bus and train service within the city and beyond. By train, it is a short ride, about a half hour, from Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, and Rotterdam.
Leiden is a beautiful place to visit and a perfect place to discover on foot. It’s full of history and even has poetry, in all languages, written on its walls. The Hortus, original botanic garden belonging to the university, is a haven of peace and natural beauty. There are lots of quaint cafes, a wonderful cinema, Trianon, and endless nice restaurants with a relaxed atmosphere. If you have an interest in Japan then don’t miss the Sieboldhuis on the Rapenburg (one of the most famous streets in The Netherlands). It was the birthplace and a great source of inspiration for Rembrandt and other famous artists.
Leiden is a nice alternative to the madhouse that is Amsterdam. It's only 20 minutes by train from Schiphol airport and the town has that old Dutch feel without all the turmoil of the capital. Canals, windmills, a shopping centrum, easy proximity to the rail station, a friendly and helpful VVV tourist office nearby. It is a very pleasant place to walk and sightsee. The Golden Tulip hotel is a five minute walk from the Leiden Centraal stations and the rates for a four star hotel are much preferable to those in Amsterdam.

Great location - not too far from the Central Station in Leiden (though I don't recommend it with heavy luggage). The hotel is on a very central location in Leiden with access to shopping streets and historic city center. Breakfast was great. There is a water-boiler with thee and coffee in the room. It was a very warm day and the breakfast room could open up a door - so almost felt like having breakfast outside.

Very close to train station and restaurants, easy walking distance. 10-15 minutes tops to city center. Nice rooms (there are some that have been updated, but they are all large). Bed is comfortable, the breakfast buffet is sufficient. The Tulip in is the 3-star hotel. You can also stay at the 4-star part of the hotel called the Golden Tulip.

Nice modern hotel close to the Leiden railway station. Walking distance to city center. The bed was very comfortable, the bedroom and bathroom were large and clean, and we were provided with everything that we needed, even with an electric kettle for making tea/coffee in the room. The wifi worked very well.

The room was great; fit our family of four snugly. We spent most of our time out and about so it worked for us. LOVED the fact that we could rent bikes from the hotel. Breakfast was good. The pool entertained my kiddos.

The proprietors of this establishment are enthusiastic hosts! The room we stayed in (#3) was a split level room with a great view and plenty of space. The breakfast is traditional Dutch, though special requests are met with the same enthusiasm the hosts have while heaving your luggage up and down the elevator-less building. The property is conveniently located too.
