Leiden ibis lies right next to the Central Station and just 984 feet from the historical Leiden center city and 6.2 mi from Keukenhof.
I've stayed at Ibis MANY times since early 2013: it's my favourite hotel in Leiden. Actually, I only ever booked other hotels in the city because there weren't vacant rooms at Ibis at the time of my visits. The location is just the best: the hotel is next to the train station. There are two grocery stores nearby (Jumbo and Aldi), and the beautiful city centre is just a short walk away (but there are many busses next to the hotel if you don't want to walk). The rooms are simple, but are often spotlessly clean. I'm obsessed with the shower cabines: I think Ibis offers the best bathrooms in the entire country. The cabines are large and spaceous, and water pressure is enormous! I've stayed in much fancier hotels across the Netherlands (including numerous 5-star hotels), but Ibis wins hands-down in the shower category. The official check-in time is 14:00, but if there are rooms available, they will happilly let you check in much earlier. All the receptionists are very professional, friendly and kind.

The bed was really comfortable. Everything was clean. The room was pretty big. We had all the needed toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and body moisturizer coming in more sustainable larger bottles. The body moisturizer smells amazing. 😁 The breakfast was great with many delicious options to choose from.

Hotel De Doelen is uniquely situated at the Rapenburg, one of the most beautiful canals in the Netherlands. The hotel is in an ancient Patrician mansion, built in 1638.
Bill, owner, was very pleasant and helpful with check in - even carried our bags up to our room. He was fun to chat with and gave us great advice on finding places, dealing with a sore throat, providing a vase for our tulips, and even what to see/do at our next location. Our room, looking out over the beautiful canal and busy intersection, was spacious and comfortable. The property is older but very clean and functional and charming. Property was excellent location for walking and sightseeing, and even though it's busy outside, the neighborhood becomes silent and still after about 8 pm making for a good sleep. I'll stay here again for sure!

Hotel VIC, Breathe Hotel Leiden, and Boutique Hotel d'Oude Morsch got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Leiden.
I would recommend Leiden as a smaller version of Amsterdam, and a lot less crowded, and situated only a half hour train ride from Amsterdam. For that reason my wife and I always prefer to stay here when visiting the Netherlands.
Beautiful city. Especially easy to walk around. Coming from the US it was an exciting feeling not needing a car. The locals are pretty relaxed and friendly. Make sure to check if places take VISA. Some stores and shops only accept cash or the local bank's debit/CC.
I loved everything about Leiden! It was just the right size for lots of exploring on foot over a couple of days. I spent about two days there and with a lot of walking, saw most of the old town, but could easily have spent three days and gone into some of the museums. Every place I walked was full of beautiful buildings, little gardens and lovely canals. Make sure to stop in the city visitor's center near the train station and for 3.50 euro, buy the guide book that shows you the location of all the old alms house courtyards. This has a great city map in the front, and looking for all of them takes you all over the old city and through a lot of alleyways that you otherwise wouldn't have noticed. Definitely visit the Botanical gardens as well. There were lots of food options, both nice restaurants and quick food to eat while walking. I also got some great cheese, bread, fruits and veggies from the Wednesday morning market, and I am sure the Saturday morning market would be even better. There are numerous signs posted throughout Leiden describing historical areas, buildings or views written in both Dutch and English. The best thing about Leiden is that even though it is just a short train ride from Amsterdam, and it many ways, looks a lot like Amsterdam with all its canals, there are so few tourists there!!! For example, the tour of the the Valk windmill was fantastic since you could go up all 7 floors, but there were only about a dozen people in it when I was there, even though it is only a short walk from the main train station. There are however, a large number of extremely friendly cats wandering about the city waiting for you to pet them, and all the natives I spoke to were also very friendly as well. As a 60-yr old woman traveling solo, I felt perfectly safe walking all over town until well after dark, and if I had had a bike, it would have been a great town to explore by bike as well as foot.
Every thing can be found in the center. There are many museums to visit, foods to try out, and stores to visit. Public transportation takes you everywhere quickly. We loved to eat at Annie's Birthday while sitting outside at the water. The pannekoek huis in the center was great. They had several options, including poffertjes
Very nice middle size city, with canals, good dining options (a lot of variety and outside dining), much history that is linked to its old university. Many nice small museums and a hortus botanicus. We visited the Japanese museum Sieboldhuis which, apart from its regular Japanese collection on art and fauna, had a great exhibition on Japanese fabels, with beautiful drawings by the brothers Miedema (ends Sept. 10th). A city for those who love culture.
Charming city. We were there for textile study tour. Also to Harleem which is well worth a visit. The Hague as well. Strongly recommend as alternative to too busy Amsterdam. The Hortus Botanicus is well worth seeing. They have a great cafe for breakfast, lunch etc. Book a hotel away from the canals, which are charming, but noisy.
The hotel is located in a quiet part of the town, a little bit far from the center but this gives the chance to explore small and beautiful streets of Leiden. Once inside the hotel, it has a charming simple style. The rooms are big, wheel equiped and very comfortable. The bathroom is also big and the the cleaning products are special and of excelent quality.
The staff was absolutely exceptional and very accommodating. I can't say enough great things about the team. If you travel to Leiden and don't stay at Boutique Hotel d'Oude Morsch you are making a mistake. It is an exceptional hotel for families with an on-site playground and great restaurant that has the same owner.
The hotel is neat and clean, all the staff are friendly and responsive, and the buffet breakfast is excellent. In addition, it has soundproof windows and the location right across the Leiden Centraal is convenient. It is walking distance to groceries stores, pharmacies, restaurants, and Leiden Center, it couldn’t be better.
Lovely hotel, in an old townhouse in central Leiden but not too central (away from the party boats!), on a fairly quiet side street. Nicely decorated and the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a long time! Self check-in and in-person check-out were both easy.
The best hotel I have stayed at in the Netherlands. Large new room, great bathroom, best mattress I have slept on in years. Excellent breakfast and over all service. Public garage only 1 block away. Perfect Central Location.
The desk is very kind. She always showed concern that my stay in Leiden will be easy and comfortable. Location is very close to the central. All the facilities are so convenient.
Nice hotel right in central Leiden, with a channel road in front. Very nice view from the rooms to the road and channel, quite enjoyable place. Good breakfast and nice people.
Nice boutique hotel in the centre of Leiden, in walking distance of public transport and the city centre. Kind, professional stuff and excellent breakfast!
The room was quiet, with a comfortable temperature. The bathroom was fine. Parking directly in front of the hotel was easy.
Great hotel for business - and has an amazing breakfast. Ticks the boxes when working in Leiden.
