The staff was incredibly helpful, big shoutout to Victoria and Melissa for their professionalism. They were super nice, always ready to help with any questions and went above and beyond when my flight was canceled and assisted me in booking a room for that evening. The breakfast was quite good, and the location was perfect, close to everything. The room was clean, safe, and warm with a pretty view. A blow dryer was available in the room.

Perfectly located near the airport and a bit outside the city, but well connected by bus. Breakfast was superb! A lot of choices every day. Room was very comfortable and the top floor, where the reception is, is very nice as well. The welcome drink was a nice extra.

FAQs about hotels in Tromsø

The Gateway to the Arctic

Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.

If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.

The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.

Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.

Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.

Tromsø is a pretty city.

Tromsø is a pretty city. It has some unique small stores and ample supermarkets to shop as well as we like to do our own cooking usually. The city is pedestrian, bike, and e-bike friendly. Beautiful mountains ring it. Parking however can be challenging and we were fortunate to have a space with our rental apartment with a kind proprietor. I would highly recommend Tromsø as a stay in itself and importantly as a great strategic jumping off point to explore northern Norway.

Tromsø is a great city.

Tromsø is a great city. Although the city itself offers limited sightseeing opportunities, the surrounding area is absolutely outstanding. To be honest, the Tromsø Cable Car is a bit too expensive for what it offers.

We visited in late July/early August.

We visited in late July/early August. We stayed at the Aurora hotel, chosen because they offered Half Board, and were really happy there. We started with a walking tour of the city, with visits to Polaria and the Polar museum included, which gave a very good idea of the layout and places of interest. It is very easy to get around. We went to a "midnight" concert in the cathedral. It was fascinating to come out at nearly midnight in broad daylight. We took a trip to Sommarøy island. There were several fjord stops en route and we saw reindeer wandering along on one of the roads. We also saw Arctic terns. It was a very beautiful and peaceful trip, with a lunch of soup/sandwich and a drink included. We stopped on the way back to see the large 3.5m stuffed polar bear in its glass case. We did an organised fjord cruise on the Hermes II, which included a snack and a drink. The scenery was amazing and the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. We walked over the bridge connected to the mainland, to see the cathedral and go on to the cable car, from which we had the most wonderful views. We also visited the Botanic Garden, beautifully laid out with a huge variety of plants and well worth seeing.

Lots of things to do - there is a park running north in the middle of Tromso, many varied museums to see, apart from the Tromse Uni Museum (the Arctic Museum) near Telegrafbukta (bus no 40) I suggest you visit the Troll Museum. It is not only for kids. You will understand where the troll-legend originated from, if "mara", the witch who sits on people's breasts when they sleep and makes it difficult to breath is part of your culture - you will learn more about her and how she married, you will hear a piece to the devil on the hardanger fiddle. There are many grocery stores and restaurants in the centre, bus connection all over the island and beyond, don't miss a trip on bus no 26 through the underwater tunnel to Tromsdalen. It is nice to pay attention to details - the nice blue round information plaques on buildings (unfortunately only in Norwegian) and the many sculptures. The many references to the Sami culture (gift shops, flag, events) and to the Northern Lights are unique and appreciable.

Tromso is a typical tourist town that , like many others in the world, exist because of its location. Basically a bit of a tourist trap. Like most of Norway VERY expensive. Some of the trips you can book are idiotically expensive.

Was so nice being in the lodges with a chance to see the northern lights at the campsite. Our lodge was kept really warm, we were able to forget about the snowy and cold weather outside. Very easy to get to and from the city centre on public transport. It’s also easy to get to and from the fjellheisen cable car from the site on the public bus, highly recommend going there for the views of Tromsø.

Clean, comfortable hotel right in the centre of Tromsø with views of the harbour and surrounding scenery. Good buffet breakfast (including barista coffee). The airport express bus drops off and picks up right at the hotel. All the bars and restaurants are nearby and there’s a great pub just opposite for a nearby late drink. We even saw the Northern Lights from right outside the hotel!
