That we got our money back for the northern lights chasing tour when it got canceled because there was no chance to see it. It was 100% cloudy everywhere. And we asked for a double bed for the second part of our stay (we went to an other hotel in between) but they arranged a double bed immediatly for us.

Perfect location. The hotel is opposite a ferry terminal and located in the center of Tromso city. I could access most of the significant sites by walking.
The building is modern in design. There is a Sky Bar on the top floor, and the gin and tonic was good. The breakfast was also lovely. If you are a tourist visiting Tromso for the first time, staying at this hotel is one of the best choices.

FAQs about hotels in Tromsø

The Gateway to the Arctic

Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.

If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.

The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.

Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.

Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.

Tromsø is a great city.

Tromsø is a great city. Although the city itself offers limited sightseeing opportunities, the surrounding area is absolutely outstanding. To be honest, the Tromsø Cable Car is a bit too expensive for what it offers.

We visited in late July/early August.

We visited in late July/early August. We stayed at the Aurora hotel, chosen because they offered Half Board, and were really happy there. We started with a walking tour of the city, with visits to Polaria and the Polar museum included, which gave a very good idea of the layout and places of interest. It is very easy to get around. We went to a "midnight" concert in the cathedral. It was fascinating to come out at nearly midnight in broad daylight. We took a trip to Sommarøy island. There were several fjord stops en route and we saw reindeer wandering along on one of the roads. We also saw Arctic terns. It was a very beautiful and peaceful trip, with a lunch of soup/sandwich and a drink included. We stopped on the way back to see the large 3.5m stuffed polar bear in its glass case. We did an organised fjord cruise on the Hermes II, which included a snack and a drink. The scenery was amazing and the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. We walked over the bridge connected to the mainland, to see the cathedral and go on to the cable car, from which we had the most wonderful views. We also visited the Botanic Garden, beautifully laid out with a huge variety of plants and well worth seeing.

Easy to get around. Public buses were excellent value and very regular. The tourist info office was very helpful. Easy to get transport to the airport. Ideal stop off point after Hurtigruten Bergen to Tromso.

Lots of things to do - there is a park running north in the middle of Tromso, many varied museums to see, apart from the Tromse Uni Museum (the Arctic Museum) near Telegrafbukta (bus no 40) I suggest you visit the Troll Museum. It is not only for kids. You will understand where the troll-legend originated from, if "mara", the witch who sits on people's breasts when they sleep and makes it difficult to breath is part of your culture - you will learn more about her and how she married, you will hear a piece to the devil on the hardanger fiddle. There are many grocery stores and restaurants in the centre, bus connection all over the island and beyond, don't miss a trip on bus no 26 through the underwater tunnel to Tromsdalen. It is nice to pay attention to details - the nice blue round information plaques on buildings (unfortunately only in Norwegian) and the many sculptures. The many references to the Sami culture (gift shops, flag, events) and to the Northern Lights are unique and appreciable.

Tromso is a typical tourist town that , like many others in the world, exist because of its location. Basically a bit of a tourist trap. Like most of Norway VERY expensive. Some of the trips you can book are idiotically expensive.

Tromso is a lovely town, with most things you'll want to see...

Tromso is a lovely town, with most things you'll want to see within walking distance. It seemed quiet in mid April, but I suspect it gets busy in summer to keep the many tourist shops going. You will find plenty of websites that give you the 'top ten places to see and do', so I won't repeat them here. Other places I enjoyed .... Buldreterminalen AS for an afternoon of bouldering. It's near the airport. Tromsø Klatresenter AS for lead climbing, bouldering, pool swimming. City To Summit for a quirky old store shopping experience and really friendly staff. Norrøna Concept Store for quality outdoor clothes (cheaper than at home). Balthazar beer wine & whiskey for beer wine & whiskey. Skansen, for the old architecture. Sauna Pust. Yes, it is worth it. Don't forget to take advantage of the tax refunds. It's very easy and the shops will help you out with what to do. But most of all, Tromso is the gateway to lots of adventures. But I'm sure you know that already, that's why you're here. Skiing, walking, sailing, etc). Check out Ersfjordbotn which can be easily accessed by the bus if you don't have a car (50 NOK and about 1 hour). A great place to stay for an extended holiday, and en excellent cafe on the shore. And Sommarøy (car or boat access). Simply beautiful, with sandy beaches and fantastic swimming. Have fun out there.

The staff were very friendly, responsive and gave good suggestions as to where to see the Northern Lights. They also were quick to respond to my messages prior to travelling there and I felt at ease despite arriving after 11pm. The location is very good, the paths around it are not slippy hahaha. Because outside of the centre, and even higher up in the centre, the pathways are really treacherous so this is a good thing! The price is reasonable and I enjoyed my stay.

cozy small nicely furnished cabin with a beautiful view. We really liked the concept of choosing a breakfast variation which they bring directly to your cabin. We recommend booking a car early enough in advance since the accommodation is 40 min away from the city centre/ airport and cars are not easy to get spontaneously. 3 of 4 nights northern lights were easily so see. Everyone was super friendly- we would definitely come back.

The room with sea view was perfect, northern lights were visible from the window and that was spectacular! Breakfast was good, in a stylish restaurant on the top floor, overlooking the sea and mountains! The hotel is near many bus lines to the town center as well as the airport (whichbis sort of walking distance too), and next door to it is a shopping center. I would stay here again for sure!

We loved staying here we had such a good trip. It’s a lovely hotel food is nice and staff helpful. It’s close to the airport and meeting points for trips. We loved Tromso and we were lucky to see northern lights in all their glory in November - we wouldn’t recommend whale watching tour. Loved the reindeer safari and northern lights trip and Tromso is amazing
